Barrows family,
Time has passed but never a day I don't think about our thirty plus years we coached together. He was my mentor, friend, and role model. I miss him dearly but know my world was better because he was in it. God has special place for him.
God bless. Jack Yanno

I will never forget the ashen look of Coach Barrows when he reported the assassination of President Kennedy in my 8th grade class. He was a great history teacher as well as coach. I still have his notes on each President. He gave his players great confidence which had us often playing beyond our highest expectations. I will be always grateful for giving me the opportunity to captain a great ball team.

Mr. Barrows or "Bobby B" as our class called him had a huge influence on my life. I was a south buffalo kid, who moved to Orchard Park after his 8th grade graduation. After standing out locally for baseball, I had a very hard time catching the eye of the coaches my freshman, sophomore years in OP Baseball! Enter the junior season, Bobby B took me under his wing, and noticed the things that alot of the other coaches didn't notice. He took me to the side and worked on my game in which my my senior year I improved dramatically. My playing time increased, and he will always have a special place in my heart for all the resilience he taught me in the game of Baseball. He was a true teacher of the game and also my friend! He had the heart of a lion, and he will be missed dearly! I'd like to extend my compassion to Barrows family and let them know how special this man was to alot of players lives!
My regrets,
Phil Serafini

May Coach Barrows rest in peace and God Bless his Family through this time. My two brothers ('85-'88) and I ('96-97) played for Coach Barrows. I, however, will not remember Coach Barrows for being my coach, but rather for being a great, compassionate man. He was there for my brothers, family, and I in anyway he could be when we lost our mother in '87. For that, I will always be grateful. R.I.P. Coach and thoughts and prayers to the entire family.

Dear Mary and Family:
What wonderful tributes to your dad. I know how proud you all must be to read these testaments. Here's one more: I am honored to have known your dad. He was my teacher over 20 years ago. I loved him and I loved his class. He was a gentleman in every sense of the word.
I regret that I have not seen your dad in many years; but one doesn't forget someone so special--I thought of your dad often.
God bless you, Mr. Barrows, and may you rest in peace. Orchard Park (and beyond) is a better place because you were in it.
And you made Bob Hope proud with your classic one-liners. They were the best.
So long, old friend, we will miss you.

I echo the sentiments expressed by Messrs. Nassoiy and Yanno.
I had the distinct pleasure of making the acquaintance of "Abe" in 1963 as we were scrimmaging the Quakers as Timon Tigers. Two baseball legends of the WNY coaching fraternity were meeting each other for the first time on the friendly fields of strife in Orchard Park. Yes it was a battle of the Titans, Mel Palano vs. Robert "Abe" Barrows.
The slick fielding Richie Nassoiy was the Quakers leader between the lines but Mr.Barrows left no doubt who was in charge from "play ball" to the bottom of the last.
I respected him from that day through his long and storied tenure as as a coach and teacher which, while technically terminated by his retirement, never really ended.
And so it is for us, the living, to celebrate the life of a truly great man.
Mr.Barrows you will be truly and deeply missed and long remembered.
RIP!

To the Barrows Family,
Coach Barrows is a lasting influence in my life. Not only from the lessons of baseball but from the life lessons he shared so freely.
As a former player and student, I cherish the moments I spent with Coach. Perhaps the most memorable time in my life was the time we shared through our good friend Billy Duke's life and passing.
With my deepest condolences,

Barrows family,
It is a very sad time for me to hear about Bob's passing. He was my mentor as a young coach many years ago and a role model to what I became as a teacher and coach.
He was a giant man of integrity, honesty, dedication, and love for family. His life passion was the great game of baseball. His legacy speaks for itself and will never be forgotten in the generations of student athletes who will remember him. In the future any time a baseball player sets foot on Barrows field in Orchard Park they will also remember a true legend.
The memories I have in the 45 years of his association are many. I will miss our lunches and weekly talks but will savor those memories the rest of my life as so will countless others. Although sad to see him leave us I know he is in a better place and your mom Theresa will be waiting for him. May God bless you at this sad time. I am sorry I will not be able to make the trip north to pay my respects.
