Sheila Grove Obituary

Grove,

Sheila Connors

June 4, 1941 - April 16, 2025

Died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. Sheila was born in Buffalo, NY, the eldest daughter of six children, to Regina Nolan Connors and Thomas J Connors. She received a BS In mathematics from St Mary's College in 1963 and joined IBM shortly after, where she worked for her entire career. She married the love of her life, Michael Motte Grove (USN) in 1972. They settled in Sharon MA and enjoyed theatre, travel, and sailing on their Friendship Sloop "The Margaret Motte". Sheila advanced to become a highly respected executive at IBM at a time when few women held senior leadership positions. She was also a lifelong supporter of the Catholic Church, committed to reforming the governance and leadership culture in the wake of the clergy abuse scandal. She was as devoted to her German Shepherds as they were to her. Adam provided great comfort to Sheila in her final days. Her friends and family will remember her wise life advice, her strong opinions (carefully articulated), her fairness and generosity, and her remarkable combination of intellect, humor, and grace. She is survived by Thomas Connors of Plano TX; Sharon Connors Rougeau of Yorktown, VA; Kathleen Connors Toussaint of Bryan, TX; and Regina Connors of Stanford, NY. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Barbara Moorehead Griffin of Hopewell, NJ and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Mott Grove and her brother Robert Connors of Buffalo, NY.

The family will hold visiting hours at the Alexander F. Thomas and Sons Funeral Home in Walpole MA from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 24th. One of the most powerful and lasting mentors I have had in my entire career was Sheila Grove. I cannot understate how deeply this person impacted me and how long that impact has lasted. Her advice and council in the job resonate in every customer engagement I have all this many years later. She taught me to raise the bar on my delivery, and why it mattered. Fitting today that I'm working through customer-facing materials, and editing, practicing, caring, honing....

I recall visiting a well known luxury retailer with her in Manhattan, and watching in awe as she expertly managed the client through a discussion on a company-wide business and technology transformation initiative, leaving them feeling understood, delighted, and engaged for work.

I am saddened to see that she recently passed. I'm annoyed at myself for losing touch. I smile deeply thinking through all the many wet-behind-the-ears colleagues she whipped into professional shape in her time. And I know this fine human made the world a truly better place for people in the job, in the community, and in the world at large.

Rest in peace, Sheila, your work here is very well done, as always.
