The news of Pudge's passing is shocking and very sad. I remember Pudge well from all of my great times in Monticello especially hanging out at the Meyer house with Danny, Pudge and friends. He had a great love for life and sense of humor. My heart goes out to his entire family.

Although we have not seen each other for a long time, I can see his face and hear his voice so clearly. A face that featured a broad smile and laughing eyes. A voice that spoke softly, infused with wit and charm. It is with tremendous sadness that I write this, hearing of Pudgy's passing and wishing it were not so. As a childhood friend, I send thoughts and prayers to you, his family. May you hold onto the wonder that is his legacy. I hope you find a small comfort in knowing that he was loved and so well thought of by so many for so many years. It is rare, as he was.

Pudgy was one of my earliest, best elementary school buddies. I remember his mom making us grilled cheese sandwiches while we played on the sidewalk. My thoughts go out to his family ... and to all of us from the '77 class who've lost way too many, way too soon.

To you Sheryl, Gaby and the Meyer-Rosenbaum families
My sincere condolences on the passing of my friend & confidante, Pudge. I'm glad to have known him during my time rooming with him at the University of Buffalo's Governor's Complex. I will always cherish his gift for gab, his counsel, our evenings watching the Three Stooges and Benny Hill and that infamous laugh. It would light up the room and warms my heart. May God keep you in His tender care during your time of loss. Nate The Skate

My thoughts and prayers go out to your families. My memories go back to our young teens when I met Pudgy at the Raleigh Hotel in the Catskills. We kept in touch through the years and every summer. We reconnected when he came to Buffalo for Law school. He was such a friendly, funny and thoughtful friend. I am sad we lost touch over the years. My loss to have not met his adoring wife and daughter and to have not maintained our friendship. My memories of Pudgy will remain in my heart. May you find the strength and support from your loving family and friends.
G-d Bless, Randi Mednick-Pollina

I don't have any childhood memories which don't include Pudgy. He was an older brother to me and Steve. Just a day older than Jeff and attached to him at the hip. I walked down the aisle at Jeff's wedding with Pudgy on my arm.
Only someone as funny as Pudgy would maintain a life long nickname after a dog on the Merv Griffin Show. He was always laughing or making us laugh to the point of a small miracle George Carlin style - through the nose and mouth.
My heart goes out Sheryl and Gabby and I hope it'll be soon that when thinking about him they laugh and smile instead of cry.

Steve was a great guy and I am saddened for your loss. I must say that I was always impressed with Steve in all areas of his life and the way he took care of himself. This was totally unexpected and I was shocked at this event. It is just wrong that you should be deprived of him so prematurely.
I will keep him in my memories and hope you the best in getting through these terrible times.

From Hinman College at Binghamton University, condolences to Pudge's family. What a shock! Unbelievable! Less than two months ago Pudge was here at Hinman's Homecoming, mceeing the festive banquet at which we celebrated 40 years of Hinman history, meeting and greeting old friends from college days in Hinman, and making new friends. Those of us who came to Hinman later, and who hadn't known him--we learned just how much Hinman meant to him, and we appreciated how ready he was to give back, and to lead us in a celebration Hinman's history. We are grateful for his contributions. As Faculty Master of Hinman College, on behalf of many other Hinmanites: "Thank you, Pudge." Rest in peace.

Words can not convey the sincere sadness I felt at hearing of Pudge's passing. How blessed so many of us were to spend what little time we did with him this summer at our reunion. His genuine concern as to how we all were doing, questions about our families and how they were, and his "remember whens" left so many of us feeling like it was just yesterday when we all attended classes together. The memories will last forever.
I hope knowing how he touched so many people in all walks of life, and how he brought smiles and laughter to all who knew him will give his family and friends strength and comfort as they grieve. May the memories of the laughter, the love and the good time spent together, and the love he had for his family and friends help you all find peace thru this difficult time and may his memory live on forever all of us who knew him.
My deepest sympathies.

Ray, Barbara, and Danny,
I am so saddened for your loss of a son and brother. All of your family were such great neighbors in Monticello and I am really taken by his passing. Pudgie was such a nice guy and my thoughts are with you. To Sheryl and Gabrielle - it is so nice to read all the terrific things being said about your husband and father. Remembering Pudgie only from when he was still in High School, I can see where he turned out to be exactly as everyone has described him. My deepest sympathies and I wish the best to all of you in the coming months.

To Sheryl, Gaby, Ray, Danny and Bebe, it is with a heavy heart that I send you my love and sympathy. When my family arrived in Monticell I was in the 8th grade it was a little frightening until I become friends with Pudge, Jeff,Cande,Ellyn,Barri, and several others. From that moment on until recently at the 30th reunion,Pudge always made me laugh, smile and always feel that no matter how terrible things might be at that time, laugh with it and it will make the pain a little easier. While that will take a while to feel that way, please know Pudge was one of the most sweetest, genuine people who talked about his family with such pride, love and admiration. At some point in time, that might be a comfort. If there is anything I can do, please don't hesitate to call. When I look up at the sky, I know the brightest star, will be looking down on me. Much love Valerie Czaja

Mere words cannot possibly convey my deepest shock and grief over the suddden loss of our lifelong friend. My heart goes out to Steven's cherished Gabby and Sheryl, and I hope they take comfort in the fact that Pudgie (he once admonished me to NEVER call him Steven - and that was two months ago!) was adored from DC to CA, FL to NY, and everywhere in between. Most recently, five of us swapped way too many e-mails joking, "singing" camp songs, reminiscing about elementary school pranks, day camp, high school craziness, and laughing about our many years of antics. He never failed to cause ripples of laughter, and his one-liner wit was delightful. As busy and devoted as he was to his wife and beautiful daughter, he still took time out to dish with his old friends. Danny, my heart is so heavy with sadness and shock, and my grief-filled thoughts are also with you, Barbara, and your father. Pudgie was one of a kind -- I just wish I could do something to help alleviate the unbelievable pain you're all experiencing. Pudgie touched the lives of so many people, briefly or for life, and we are all blessed to have known him. Pudgie Meyer will be missed and never, ever, forgotten. With the greatest of sadness for your entire family, you all have my and my husband's deepest condolences.

My heart is breaking for the whole family. Pudge was my first hero when I was just six years old and I feel lucky to have known him. The last time I saw him at our High School reunion in July, I had the great good fortune to hear his jokes, dance with him and feel the love that he had for all of his friends. He glowed when talking about his beautiful daughter Gabrielle. I will especially miss his memory of our younger days: school, camp and other events that only he could explain with vivid, almost total recall. The man quite simply was a mensch. My Love and sympathy go to his wife and daughter and also to "brother" Jeff N., brother Danny, sister Bebe and his dad, Ray. Tears in Heaven indeed. Love, Ellyn Solis
