Like most, I occasionally find myself reminiscing of days gone by and certain individuals come to mind. I was saddened to see that Tom (Dr. Small) passed last year. We played against each other for a few seasons in the Tonawanda News Baseball League, circa 1970. I vividly recall his talent on the mound and love for the game. Although this sentiment is belated, heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and patients. I´m sorry for your loss.
With my sincere sympathy,
Dr. John Timmins

To the world, he was one person. To so many of us, he changed our world forever. Even when he was busy if you needed him he was there to lend an ear, and listened without judgment. Full of compassion, wisdom and genuine empathy. Gone but never forgotten <3

Tom, it's a year today since we lost you, and hardly a day goes by where I don't miss you being a phone call away. Though you left us in good hands, I sincerely doubt there is anybody left on this planet that can fill your shoes in an overall sense. Though you were a great doctor, there are hundreds of great doctors. It was about you, as much as it was ever about medicine. I so hoped I would have your consultation through my cancer treatment. You always knew something that all the other doctors wouldn't tell you. I felt a bit of panic when I was told you were retiring. But I was sure you would still take my phone call. Then we lost you all together, and that felt devastating. It still does. I feel convinced that you were the last of a dying breed, and at the top of the heap. You may be gone from the Earth, but you live on inside of so many of us. Godspeed my friend...

Dr. Tom, I knew you and your father all though high school. The highest of standards were instilled in you at an early age. Excelling as a three sport athlete and scholastically in the upper echelons throughout your Tonawanda years, inspired myself and others behind you. Always humble and encouraging, you were the example to be followed. It was my privilege to have known you and I will certainly miss following your exemplary life´s journey. Thank you for leading by example and for your kind words over many years. God bless you and your family. Signed with deep respect and admiration. Jeff Kuntz, DDS THS Class of 1967,

Dear Dr. Small,
I knew you as my next door neighbor, and the father of one of my closest, best and life long friends (Katie). You have always been a calm, kind and understanding soul (even when Katie and I caused a lot of trouble!) and you were good enough to treat me as my doctor for a multitude of aliments (not many other doctors could treat. Never judging or making me feel anything but comfortable and cared about.) You were not just a great doctor, I know u were a great dad (as I have witnessed and Katie has concurred). We will miss you Tom. Please look over us in Heaven as u looked after us in life. You are missed and loved by everyone who knew you.

Ps.
Please give my mom a guided tour of heaven, and I will be there to consol Katie (as I she is for me as well)

I have barely any words, I´m in shock. Dr. Small was the best doctor. I knew all the years I was seeing him how lucky I was. There aren´t many doctors out there like him, he genuinely cared about every single one of his patients and wanted the best for them. It wasn´t about money to him, it was about helping to change someone´s life for the better. He will be missed,I´ll always remember him. My heart goes out to his family, I am so very sorry for your loss

I worked with Tom small over 30 years ago at an Brylin hospital. In that time I witnessed his caring heart reaching out to many patients. Years later he helped my own son in the same way I will ever forever be in his gratitude

Cuz- there´s never enough time. You were the first to have a vision of me as an acupuncturist. That is one of the greatest gifts I will ever receive. It is an honor to carry out your legacy in our family name. It is a joy to read about how many lives you touched. I know you´ll be looking over me and my work forever, I only wish we had more time together. Love you always.

I am in shock. Tom was my doctor, but he was also my friend. Since he was retiring I am guessing he was sick, but never told any of us. I will miss him very much. There is no other doctor like Tom because he was our friend. He cared deeply about everybody, and always had an answer to your problem. I feel profound sadness, but very grateful to have been his patient and friend
