Catherine Cardenas Obituary

LAMONT – Catherine Mae (Cirksena) Cardenas was born June 19, 1943, in Waterloo, Iowa to Helen Jo and Roy A. Cirksena. She went home to be with her lord and savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at her home in Lamont, Iowa.
A private graveside ceremony was Cathy's wishes and will be announced at a later date.
Fawcett-Schmitz Funeral Homes is assisting the family.
An online obituary is at www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com
Any Condolences and greetings can be sent to her daughter and son-in-law at the Greg Meyer residence: 3330 120th Street, Lamont, IA 50650.
Cathy spent her young life growing up in Lamont where she attended the Lamont Community Schools and was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church.
In the 1980s Cathy moved to Texas after losing her only son, Jeffery Richard Coonley to cancer. Her daughter, Jodi Rae Gilson also moved to Texas at this time. Jodi was born in November of 1966 to the union of James Gilson and Cathy Cirksena.
Cathy worked for many years at the Michaels' Craft store in Texas as an expert in framing and displaying artwork. She transferred her talents to the Michaels' stores in Iowa when she moved back to her home state and worked until her retirement with that company. Cathy also worked part-time at Prairie Hills Retirement Center, as she wasn't one to just sit around!
Cathy's happy times were spent bowling for many years, crocheting, gardening, organizing and celebrating everyone's birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. If she ever said that a person, "Could visit right along," you knew you had her approval. Cathy loved visiting different parts of the US yearly on vacations with her grandsons and daughter. PS: We could never get her on an airplane!
Those surviving Cathy's death are her daughter, Jodi Rae (Gilson) Meyer, and her husband, Greg Meyer who live in rural Lamont where Cathy got to spend her retirement years. Cathy also has two surviving grandsons that she dearly prized: Martin and (Ale) Agular of Huston, Texas and Jon Lona of Lamont. Her siblings include: Russ and (Pat) Cirksena of Stanley, Iowa; Randy and (Georgia) Cirksena of Eagan, Minnesota; Carolyn (Cirksena) Ellis of Winthrop, Iowa and Dennis and (Cindy) Williamson of Marshfield, Missouri; many nieces and nephews that referred to her lovingly as "Aunt Pubbie"; and many "family" members online from her Back-to-Basics Bible Study Group and the Character to Destiny Group.
