I am shocked that Dale left so early. I had only just spoken with him the previous week at the Williston Staples store. I guess it is fitting that he died on the same day as another great chess player, Bobby Fischer. It will be hard not to think of Dale when I go to future tournaments.

I was shocked to read that Dale Lyons had died. Truly shocked, since when I saw him last at the Stratton chess tournament, he was energetic.
My deepest condolences to his family.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Lyons family. I am sorry that I just found out by his niece Jennifer that Dale had passed. I used to hang out at the Lyons home growing up with my cousin Linda. Over the years we had lost contact but most recently Dale repaired my truck.

I am glad that we got to reflect on all the good times we had shared over the years.
My prayers go out to all the family. I truly will miss Dale, he was a great guy. Love to all
Cammy if you need anything you know how to find me.

My thoughts a prayers go out to Dale Lyons and his family. I was introduced to Dale by David Racine back in 1995 when I had him repair the frame on an old Subaru I needed to keep running (no money, divorce). I lived in Essex Junction at that time and that was when Dale did auto repairs and painting out of his house. His mother was alive then and I had Dale did all kinds of repairs on all my vehicles. He painted a Dodge Truck of mine and has inspected all my Vehicles and Trailer annually. Ironically and by pure coincidence, I bought Chuck Seward's house right down the street from Dale in 2004 and we became neighbors. I consider Dale a damn good friend and neighbor. I'm really going to miss him. He was a hard working, honest, and spiritual man. He always helped me out whenever I needed it. What kills me is I just saw Dale at the Hanafords last week and I wanted to say hello but didn’t. I was in a hurry and said to myself, “I’ll see Dale later. I need to speak to him about some tires before February”. It just goes to show you that don’t’ take ANYTHING or ANYBODY for granted in this life. May you rest in peace my friend! Damn it! I’m going to miss you Dale.

Your Friend,
Cletus M. Flynn

My family and I were so saddened by the news of Dale's passing. He was very well liked and well appreciated for his work he did on our cars. I did have the opportunity to speak with him on the telephone on the Thursday before his passing and thank him.

On behalf of the Massachusetts Chess Association, I extend condolences to the Lyons family. Dale was one of the most active tournament chess players in Vermont. His love for the game was quite evident. Not only did he play frequently in events in his native state of Vermont but also in the neighboring states of New York and Massachusetts, as well as other New England states. His passing is a great loss to the chess community. May he rest in peace.
