Howard L. Nickerson

So. Burlington - Howard (Nick) Nickerson, 96, of So. Burlington, Vt. Passed away on October 19, 2018 at home.

He was born September 4, 1922 in Lowell, Ma to Howard and Julia (Pitts) Nickerson. He attended Lowell Tech and graduated from Worcester College, Worcester, Ma (cum laude). He was a fellow of the Association for Information & Image Management.

He served in the US Navy for fours years in WW II and was on a destroyer (USS Abbot) in the Pacific Theater. He worked at General Electric for a total of 35 years, 15 of which were spent at the River Works in Lynn, Ma. And 20 years in Burlington, VT. He retired in 1986.

He was active in Boy Scouts for over 78 years, was in Red Cross as a First Aid and CPR instructor for over 30 years and was on ski patrol at Bolton Valley for 20 years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Hinesburg, Vt., The VFW Post 782, The American Legion Post 91, and a member of the dance club for many years.

After retiring, Nick and Dottie, traveled cross country three times before settling down and spending winters in Vero Beach, Fl.

He attended St. James Episcopal Church in Essex, Jct. and All Saints Episcopal in So. Burlington, Vt

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter Donna Gallas and her husband Michael of Colchester, Vt; a son, Stephen and his wife, Debra of Jericho, Vt.; a granddaughter, Kristin Gallas of Medford, Ma.; and grandsons, Eric Gallas and his wife, Jessica, of Milton, Vt.; Scott Nickerson of Richmond, Vt.; Paul Nickerson and his fiancé, Mindy Wood, of Jericho, Vt. and three great-grandchildren, Brianne Gallas, Sawyer Nickerson, and Jordan Wood.

He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Earl, and a sister, Shirley.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday October 25, 2018 from 3:00 -5:00 pm at the Ready Funeral Home Mountain View Chapel 68 Pinecrest Drive in Essex Jct. A Memorial Service will begin at 5:00 pm at the Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date.
