William E. "Bill" Ball II

William Ball Obituary

William E. "Bill" Ball, II, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at a local hospital after a short illness. He was born in Farber, Missouri, on July 21, 1922 and had resided in Corpus Christi since October 1976. He retired from the U.S. Air Force on December 1, 1968 as a Lt/Col with over 29 years of service. His duties included pilot, aircraft commander, Command Post Senior Controller, Chief, Post Attack Command and Control System, as well as several others. Bill was very active in Lions Club affairs and activities, having held numerous local and district offices in that organization. His main focus was in support of the Texas Lions Camp for Crippled Children. Belonging to the First Baptist Church, he was a faithful member of the men's Fellowship Class. He is preceded in death by his devoted wife of 60 years, Jessie; a son, William E. III (Vicki) of Atlanta, Georgia; daughters, Margaret Sohn of Chevy Chase, Maryland, Linda (Buddy) Head of Tucson, Arizona, and Toni (Robert) Chapman of Conyers, Georgia; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Franics (Martha) Ball of Anaheim, California, and Bob G. (Liz) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; a sister Pat (Jim) Powers of Denton, Texas, as well as a host of friends and acquaintances. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2004 at First Baptist Church Chapel, with Pastor Steve Hardwick officiating. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donations be made to the Texas Lions Camp for Crippled Children, P.O. Box 241, Kerrville, TX. 78209 or your favorite charity.
