David Stiers Obituary

David Warfield Stires
84, beloved husband to Wendy V. Stires, loving father to Rachel Gretna Stires, Ashley Evelyn Snow Stires, Samantha Victoria Stires, and loving brother to Sally Stires Sutherland, passed away peacefully at his home in Albuquerque, N.M., on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017.
David was born in Canton, Ohio and grew up in Malvern where his father was the “country doctor” serving all of Carroll County. David spent over 30 years in the publishing business. His last position was president of Appleton Century Crofts, a medical publishing company. Beyond the notable volumes, he was most proud of creating The Journal of Family Practice with his longtime friend, John Geyman, M.D., who pioneered the field. He was a true book man in every sense. In later life, he pursued his love of photography and was honored to share his work at various galleries throughout the state.
He loved New Mexico, but remained a New Yorker in his heart and felt most at home there. He leaves behind friends and family throughout the world. He loved a good party and asked that we celebrate him at his home in the near future.
Memorials for David should be sent to the UNM Foundation, 700 Lomas Blvd., Two Woodward Center, Albuquerque, N.M. 87102 in support of the Senior Health Clinic at UNM. They are an amazing group of dedicated health care providers and we are forever grateful to the team, especially Alana Dancis.
