William Fitzpatrick Obituary

William J. Fitzpatrick 1920-2015

age 95, of Canton, died Dec. 22, 2015 peacefully in his home. He was born April 8, 1920, son to the late William and Gertrude (Blanchard) Fitzpatrick. He was a 1937 graduate of McKinley High School and proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a real estate broker and developer in Ohio for 50 years. He developed Viola Parkway and built many single family homes and apartments in Harter Heights. He developed and still owns the townhouse communities of East Avondale, Bexley and Glenwood. He developed Southway Industrial Park and built some of the first warehouses in the North Canton Industrial Park. He was an early builder of retail space in the Belden Village area, eventually owning and developing more than 100 acres with his son and partner Scott J. Fitzpatrick. He was a past member of Glenmoor County Club and enjoyed dining on the patio with his family and playing golf. William will always be remembered for his devotion and generosity.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Olive E. Fitzpatrick; son, William D. Fitzpatrick; and two sisters, Janice E. Singer and Margaret Myer. Survivors include his brother and lifelong friend, Thomas Fitzpatrick; three children and their spouses, Dr. Deanne and Dr. Habib Jamal of Westchester, N.Y., Scott J. and Karen Fitzpatrick of Canton and Lauren and David DePasquale of Massillon; four grandchildren, Jena and David Jamal and Ryan and Alexandra DePasquale. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Visiting Angels and Crossroads Hospice for the tender and loving care. Private services were held for the family.
Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his name to Crossroads Hospice, 3742 Boettler Oaks Dr. Suite E, Green, Ohio 44685 or to The Fitzpatrick Scholarship Fund at Central Catholic High School, 4824 Tuscarawas Street West, Canton, Ohio 44708.
