Christopher Giles

1990 - 2021

Christopher Thomas Giles passed away peacefully on December 21, 2021, at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center after battling a lengthy illness. Chris was born on December 6, 1990, to Diane Workman and the late James E. Giles. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his two children, Harper and James Giles, their mom, Courtney Kizina, his sister and brother-in-law, Kelli and Evan Leja, and his step-brother and sister-in-law, Alexander and Andrea Workman. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends. Chris was a 2009 graduate of Southern Senior High School where he excelled as a soccer and lacrosse player. He spent his adult years working as an apprentice with the Independent Electrical Contractors. Chris was an avid snowboarder and loved Notre Dame football. He was a devoted son, father and brother and was a true friend to anyone he met. While he carried many roles during his short life, his greatest of all was that as a daddy to his two children. Chris fought hard in the hospital for five months after experiencing multiple complications from septic shock. His family would like to thank his amazing care team at UMMC Shock Trauma who helped him to defy the odds for many months. During his hospital stay, Chris had too many visitors to list, but his "auntie" Maureen really brightened his spirits when she spoiled him multiple times a week with her company and even snuck him her "famous" spaghetti during the few days that he was allowed to eat. Each and every one of his daily visitors helped to keep him pushing and played a positive role during his final weeks. His family is forever thankful for everyone's thoughts, prayers, cards and visits. A mass will be celebrated in Chris' memory on Saturday, February 12 at 10:00 am. at Mt. St. Peter R.C. Church, 100 Freeport Rd. New Kensington, Pa 15068. A celebration of life will be held in Maryland later this year, date and location to be determined.
