Dave Cosgrove Obituary

David M. Cosgrove passed away on August 7th, 2019. Born on October 14th, 1946 in Keyser, WV, and raised by his mother Hilda, he graduated Keyser High in '64 then enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 17. After serving on a minesweeping vessel in the Mediterranean Sea, he was transferred to the Naval Reserve in Norfolk, VA. He was honorably discharged in 1967.  He and his wife Becki, whom he met in eighth grade, were married in 1972 and later moved to Rolling Knolls in Annapolis, where they raised their two sons and currently reside. Dave cut his teeth in carpentry and construction at Harkins Builders & Linden Construction before starting his own successful contracting company, DCS Construction, in the early 90's. Always athletic, Dave was a baseball player in his youth in WV. Later in Annapolis, he coached both son's Little League Baseball & Basketball teams, the Bucs. Dave played a big role in creating the Generals Highway Area Athletic Association. Dave taught his sons to drive while maintaining the baseball fields.  Dave had a passion for golf. He and his group of friends were fixtures at Eisenhower Golf Course for decades. An avid hunter, Dave was a member and past president of the WAKO Gun Club back in Burlington, WV where he spent many memorable moments. Dave could be found most mornings at the counter at Denny's, reading the newspaper and solving the world's problems.  Dave is survived by his wife, Becki, and his sons, Christopher and Seth. His Sisters, Pat and Barbara, and Brother Marty.   Services will be held @ Calvary United Methodist Church on Rowe Blvd Friday Aug 16th starting with a visitation at 4pm followed by memorial service at 5pm. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers donations are welcome to Wounded Warrior Project or a charity of your choice.

Dave was full of knowledge.
I am going to miss the hunting stories, poker games, knowledge on life, and my favorite... Let me tell you something! I won't forget some of his advice. Don't act on emotions and only plan the next 5 years.
My thought and Prayers are with the Cosgroves.

I knew something must be wrong when Dave did not answer my text last week asking him to come over and fix something at the house. I was so saddened to see that he just passed. I am so sorry. For years, he always came over when I needed him to fix things and he always did an amazing job. I dont know what I will do without him. I will especially miss his smile and the great conversations we had, hearing about his family and his hunting trips. Rest In Peace. Liza Davis

Becki and boys,
It was a joy working with your husband and father. I think we spent more time laughing than discussing business, sometimes both. Many in your face discussions about life, family and politics. I will never forget our many impromptu meetings at the Annapolis Home Depot. He was larger than life and you can certainly be proud of his legacy.

While Dave had a "larger than life" personality, he helped more people behind the scenes than anyone could possibly realize. When I first met Dave at Eisenhower Golf Course, he intimidated me. (Those who know him and played golf with him would understand that) Despite my life long putting woes (And playing with his money)he turned into one my true friends. Words cannot express how much he will be missed. "Dave, I will continue our McGarvey's Christmas Eve Tradition."

David. God bless you in your passing. We worked together probably for 15 plus years.
What a man's man. You taught me mucho, Dude.
And my sons as well.
Forever a fountain of down to earth common sense and wisdom about so many things, and especially life itself.
Love you brother! And forever grateful.
What an absolute awesome character.
Thanks Again

Met Dave at Eisenhower Golf course 7 or 8 years ago. Always had a kind word. We talked trucks and baseball and shared our US Navy experiences. Last played golf with him Memorial Day weekend 2019, a very good day. He will be missed.

Becki, Seth ,Chris,

We are so glad to have Dave in our life. He was so always a true friend and would do anything for us. He always took me under his wing when he was doing anything at our house and explained it very clearly just what needed to be done. Will always miss him.
