David Dawson Obituary

David Clifton Dawson, II (Pop Pop) went home to glory on Nov. 24, 2021 at age 79. David was born on Nov. 2, 1942 to David Clifton Dawson and Yetive Virginia (Collison) Dawson. He grew up in Glen Burnie with his parents and older sister Yetive (Mitzie), helping at Dawson's Country Store owned by his father. On March 3, 1962, he married Betty "Jean" Wade, his high school sweetheart. David and Jean had a loving marriage of 59 years. The Lord blessed them with two children, seven grandchildren, and one great grandchild. David loved his family with all of his heart and was dear to every one of them. David came to know Jesus Christ as his Savior as a child when a missionary led him to the Lord. He became more serious about following the Lord later in his life. Desiring to learn more about the Bible, he slowly pursued a bachelor's degree and graduated from Washington Bible College in 1982. An active and beloved member of Elvaton Baptist Church, David could often be found praying in the church parking lot early in the morning before the service or playing hymns on the piano before other members arrived. David gave generously to missions, so others would hear the good news of the gospel around the world. David was always known as a hard worker even until his last days. He faithfully served in the U.S. Army for two years. After 30 years of employment at Safeway grocery store, David retired. His coworkers remember him as a faithful Christian, and one who always made it fun to come to work. During his retirement, he worked driving a dump truck for Chaney, Cherry Hill and Reliable Contracting. He most recently drove a bus for Huber's Bus Service. He is survived by his wife, Jean Dawson; his sister, Mitzie Routt, and brother-in law, Gene; his son, David Dawson, and daughter-in-law, Missy; his daughter, Susan Roth, and son-in-law, Brad; his grandchildren, Megan Leifholtz, Calli Dawson, Zachary Roth, Jacob Roth, Emma Roth, Luke Roth and Ethan Roth; and his great grandchild, Ellie Leifholtz. His family's greatest comfort is that he knew Jesus Christ as his Savior and is now with Him in perfect peace and joy in heaven. David lived by the exhortation he often gave others, "do it as unto the Lord" (Colossians 3:23). His favorite Bible verse was John 3:36, "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him." All who knew him can testify what John 3:36 says, he believed in the Son and now has everlasting life with Him. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on March 19, 2022 at Elvaton Baptist Church (8422 Elvaton Rd, Millersville, MD 21108). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to Elvaton Baptist Church.
