Michael Cowan Obituary

Michael D. Cowan
July 17, 1951 - March 14, 2025
Michael "Mike" D. Cowan, 73, of Roscoe, Ill., passed away surrounded by family on Friday, March 14, 2025 due to complications from heart surgery. Born July 17, 1951, in Pierre, SD, the son of Charles and Beatrice (Grinwis) Cowan. Graduate of T.F. Rigg High School and a member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in South Dakota. In his younger years Mike enjoyed stock car racing and scuba diving. He owned Capital City Antique and had a passion for antiques and refinishing furniture. Mike was quick witted and a joker, you never had to wonder what he was thinking about. You could always find him talking to someone. Mike's Christmas decorating was a sight to behold, bringing joy not only to his family but to the entire town, who eagerly anticipated his festive displays each year. He was a Minnesota Viking fan and loved his family, he had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren.
Survived by his wife, Jean L. (English) Cowan; children, Chad Cowan of Pierre, SD, Jodi (Jason) Harder of Cottage Grove, MN and Niki (Eric) Jaworski of Roscoe; grandchildren, Zander and Zayla Cowan, Chloe and Ethan Harder, Anna, Lily and Avery Jaworski; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Dan who Mike traveled extensively with to antique shows. Predeceased by his parents; sisters, Connie Carr, Carol (Charles) Prince, and Marlene (Jerry) Shock; and nephew, Gary Rabii.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 12 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Jake's Place, 620 S. Cleveland Ave., Pierre, South Dakota. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. To share a memory or condolence, please visit olsonfh.com.

Enjoyed Mike at many antique shows. Garald always enjoyed dinner after the Lincoln Nebraska shows. He took our booth at Oronoco, Minnesota this last August. We will miss his humor and quick wit. Our sincere condolences. Sandi and Garald Guge
