Anyone who knows me has heard the story of my trip to Paris during my Senior year at Lansdowne, arranged by Mrs. Joynes. We stayed in a cheap little hotel not far from the Arc de Triomphe. On our first morning, we walked to the Arc, and from there, down the Champs-Elysees. As I walked down that famous street, I looked around and said to myself. "Well, I don't know what I will do with my life, but it will have something to do with this!"
I returned to that little hotel fifty years later, with tears in my eyes as I told my story to the management of the new hotel that had opened on that spot.
Debbie Joynes had a lot to do with my decision to major in French, study in Nice, and become a French teacher for BCPS, and for that I will always be grateful.

Memories are crazy things! While riding on the windy beltway last week I remembered a French teacher who took a group of students somewhere in her little Volkswagen bug as it blew around in the wind. Another memory of a French teacher who allowed her French V class to have a little friendly competition with the calculus class. A French teacher who had us read "The Petite Prince". A lifetime favorite. A French teacher who took us on a field trip to Georgetown and encouraged us to go to Madison de Crepes and buy a loaf of French bread. A French teacher who was compassionate and kind to a student who found French class to be quite a struggle. A French teacher who left happy memories of French class more than 50 years later. Thank you for being that very special French teacher!
