Loretta Widerman Obituary

Loretta Marie Widerman, 80, of Mt. Airy, formerly of Sykesville passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Lorien Mt. Airy. She was born on July 9, 1945, in Mt. Airy, MD to the late Freddie Eugene Harrison and Catherine Broderick Harrison. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 31 years, Paul R. Widerman, who died on February 17, 1995. Loretta was a 1963 graduate of Mt. Airy High School and attended Frostburg State College. She was an active committee member of the Mt. Airy alumni and reunion committees, serving as alumni president for many years. She loved to stay in touch with former classmates and tell stories from her school days. She retired in July 2011 from the Carroll County Public School System, serving as a teacher's aide at Carrolltowne Elementary School for over 37 years. She loved all her students and followed many through high school graduation and beyond, eventually teaching children of her students. She also created life long relationships with many of her co-workers, organizing reunions over the years. Loretta was always involved with her family and children's activities including majorettes, cub scout den mother, little league and all things 4-H and cattle shows. Loretta was ever present at all her children's activities and volunteering for just about anything needed. She also loved traveling with her children, family and friends including business trips to Spain and Montana with her daughter, across the US to see her son show cattle and to Europe with friends. Her last and most treasured trip was in March 2024 to South Carolina to attend her granddaughter's wedding. She was a lifetime parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Eldersburg. Loretta is survived by son William S. "Bill" Widerman of Union Bridge; daughter Kalene "Kay" Widerman of Roswell, GA, granddaughter Kayla Widerman Morris and husband James of Anderson, SC. She is also survived by former daughter in law Carrie Keeney of Good Hope, IL, sister in law Shirley Harrison of Woodbine, close friend of 74 years Jalna Schaeffer and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by siblings Robert Harrison, Helen Harrison Vaughn, Gene Harrison and wife Mary Sue and Francis E. "Johnnie" Harrison, Sr. and wife Dwinnie. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville where a Catholic prayer service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, August 15, 2025. Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Park. Those desiring may make memorial donations to St. Joseph Catholic Community, 915 Liberty Road, Eldersburg, MD 21784 or to the Carroll County 4-H, 700 Agricultural Center, Westminster, MD 21157.
