David Taylor Pettitt

1937 - 2025

David Taylor Pettitt, 87, of North East, MD passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Born in Pinnacle, NC on June 10, 1937, he was the son of the late Sanford and Eva Scott Pettitt.

David was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1960, where he served honorably as a military police officer stationed in Germany. After his service, he built a long and steady career at General Motors, retiring after more than 30 years as an assembler. David had also been a long-time member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church. His kindness, generosity, and love for his family and friends will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Gail Blomquist Pettitt; children, Laura Hendrickson (Benjamin), David Pettitt (Kimberly), Craig Pettitt, Pamela Haley (Steven), and Jeffrey Pettitt (Karen); 28 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Ina Mae Dickerson, Janie Moore, Marie Barrow, Delmer Pettitt, Aaron Pettitt, Rachel Hayes, and Benny Pettitt.

Funeral service will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, 2038 Pleasant Valley Road, Newark, DE 19702, with visitation beginning at 10 AM. Interment with Military Honors will be in Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Cherry Hill Cemetery, 390 Cherry Hill Road, Elkton, MD 21921.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Old Apostolic Lutheran Church Building Fund at P.O. Box 1703, Elkton, MD 21922.
