Robert Donald Fallon, 73

Robert Fallon of Elkton, MD passed away Dec 5, 2024 after a 20-year battle with Parkinson's Disease. Bob was a beloved brother, husband, dad and granddad. Bob was born February 19, 1951, in New Rochelle, NY to the late Robert Livingston Fallon and June McGeachin Fallon.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 50 years, Janet Gayler Fallon, sons Daniel (Sienna) of Kensington, Maryland and Douglas (Kathleen) of Washington DC, his granddaughters Piper and Wren of Kensington, and Cecily and Elliott of Washington. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Shadwick (John), brother Scott Fallon, brother Don Fallon (Sandy), brother-in-law Winston Gayler, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob grew up in Mamaroneck, NY, graduating from Rye Neck High School in 1969. He graduated with distinction from Cornell University in 1973, and married fellow Cornellian Janet in 1974. He then earned an MS in marine sciences from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and a PhD in bacteriology from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

After a postdoc at DuPont's Savannah River Lab in Aiken, South Carolina, Bob spent 6 years at the University of Georgia's Marine Institute on Sapelo Island, Georgia. In 1986 he moved to Elkton to complete 30 years of research with DuPont.

He enjoyed canoeing, sailing, swimming, fishing, and camping with his family. He volunteered with his sons' Boy Scout Troops, swim teams, and school activities. He adored his granddaughters and loved singing silly songs and generally being goofy with them.

Bob will be remembered for his kindness, intelligence, strength, and courage. He displayed these characteristics in everyday life, and especially in his battle with Parkinson's.

A celebration of life will be held at the Newark Country Club at 300 West Main St, Newark, DE on Sunday, June 1. The celebration will start at 3 pm with socializing and hors d'oeuvres followed by a more formal program at 4 pm.
