Ada Lee Obituary

Ada Louise McBride Lee CHARLOTTE - Ada Louise McBride Lee, of Charlotte, died on Good Friday, April 18, 2014, at her home in the Regency Retirement Village, Pineville. She was born Jan. 15, 1919, to the late Boyd Hampton McBride and Mamie Harmon McBride of Spartanburg, S.C., In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward McBride, Roy McBride and her sister, Mae McBride Wallen. Although a native of Spartanburg, she considered Charlotte home after coming for a week's visit in 1939 and never leaving. Here she found the love of her life, Major Graham Lee, and they married a short six months after meeting, growing their family to include four daughters, nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Ada graduated from Spartanburg High in 1936, worked for several years at Eckerd Drug in the Park Road Shopping Center and retired with eighteen years service from BellSouth in 1984. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling on many "senior" trips with her best girlfriends, quilting, crocheting and gardening. Though she never drove a car, she loved going on trips and could always give you the best directions to get anywhere she needed you to take her! Ada and Major were charter members of Westover Hills Presbyterian Church and remained members until it closed its doors about 51 years later. Although her health prevented her from attending very often, for the last 10 years she was a devoted member of Sharon Presbyterian Church. Ada's beloved Major died in 2001, and she is survived by daughters Marjorie Wright and her children, Jeffrey Wright and Susan Chana (Brad); Joyce Neff, her husband Rick and their children, Rick Neff, Leslie Fredell (Mark) and Lesa Boate (Ken); Gloria Senn, her husband Bob and their children, Dawn Rogers (Jeff) and Benjamin Senn (Bethan); and Sheila Douglas, her husband Stephen and their children, Matt Douglas and Adam Douglas; and her eleven great-grands, as she enjoyed calling them. Our family appreciates the loving support of the staff of The Regency Retirement Village, Hospice and Palliative Care - Charlotte Region and Dr. Nancy Sokany, MMG Ballantyne. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Sharon Presbyterian Church, 5201 Sharon Road, Charlotte, NC, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23. Visitation will take place immediately after the service in the Gathering Room. If you choose to remember Ada with your love and gifts in her memory, please consider Sharon Presbyterian Church building fund, Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Region (www.hpccr.org/give/memorials) or your favorite charity.
