Emily Cannon Obituary

Emily Wilson Cannon "Ms. Em" DENVER - Mrs. Emily Wilson Cannon born August 29, 1953 passed away January the 25th, 2014, at home surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of the late James William (Bill) Wilson, Sr. and Margie Poole Miller of Mt. Holly, N.C. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Sunday, February 2nd, at Webbs Chapel Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 2pm to 2:45pm and the service conducted by Rev. Kathie Sherrill will begin at 3:00pm. She worked at NAPA and Duke Power before opening Ms. Em's Child Development Center in 1988 and served as its director for 17 years. She felt very fortunate to have made a difference in so many children's lives. She earned an Associate Degree from Gaston College in early childhood development. In addition to her father, she was preceded by her "second mom" Emily "Mama" Poole for whom she was named, an her twin sister Mary Wilson Barnwell. Ms. Em is survived by her husband of 38 years, Loy Wayne Cannon, sons Chad Wayne Cannon and Matthew Loy Cannon and wife Amber Payne Cannon, all of Denver, N.C. She is also survived by grandsons Brooks, Dawson, Blake, Grayson, Matson and Hudson. They spent many nights with Mawmaw Em & Pawpaw Loy when they would bake, sing, fish, swim, etc. They were the light of her life! Also surviving are her mother Margie Miller of Mt. Holly, N.C. & brothers Jim Wilson and wife Karen of Mt. Holly, N.C., Eddie Wilson and wife Shelia of Mt. Holly, N.C., Mark Wilson of Mt. Holly, N.C., Chris Wilson and wife Cindy of Salem, S.C., & Phillip Wilson of Mt. Holly, N.C. In lieu of flowers donations made be made to Webbs Chapel Methodist Church or Christian Ministries in Denver, N.C.

Ms. Em took care of my children at her daycare and was like a second mother to them! She was such a loving and kind lady. I know she is in the special place God has for her, surrounded by all she loved and who loved her. Heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones. She was truly special.

I worked with Emily at Napa and also worked for her in day care, where I had the pleasure of taking care of Brooks and Blake when they were little. Was so sorry to hear about her passing. Margie no words can ease the loss of a child no matter how long you had with them. This being the twin of Mary has to bring back thoughts of the two of them when they were young and growing into the beautiful women they both became. I can remember them in church when I was just a child myself, I have no ideal what you are going through, I lost my son in 2008 and to this day I still have days of tears and days of some of the best memories that I wouldn't trade for anything. I pray that God will give you all the comfort that you need during this time which I know in my heart he will. You have always been such a kind person and you have been a very good friend to my mother. I don't know if she will be able to attend the service but please know she would be there if she was able. Thank you for the kindness you have shown to our family and I know Emily was a joy to your family and many others. Thoughts and prayers for Ms. Em's family. I worked for Emily for 10 years. Matt and Chad I have thought of you often since leaving, you were the most polite children that I had ever met. Em. I just wanted you to again know that I can never ever thank you for the love and care you gave my children as they were growing up. They first entered Ms. Em's at 2 ys. and 6 weeks and they continued in your loving arms until they both aged out at 12. You sent me a message a few weeks ago telling me what a Great Mother I was and how proud you were of Michael and Melissa. Em, I could never have raised them to be the wonderful Adults they are with out your help. You loved and cared for them almost as much as I and their father did. For that i owe you a huge debt of gratitude. But more than that I am so happy to have called you Our FRIEND. Rest in PEACE Sweet Lady. Never forget how many of your Ms. Em's children loved you.
