Eric Tanner Obituary
Mr. Eric Calvin Tanner, 40, of Mt. Holly went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 29, 2007.
A native of Charlotte, he was the son of Buster Tanner and LaLoy Liner Tanner of Mint Hill. He graduated from Independence High School in 1985 and the Police Academy. He was a former sheriff's deputy for the Mecklenburg County Sheriffs Department for 14 years and was also employed with Concrete Supply Company of Charlotte. Eric was currently employed with Sunbelt Rentals in Charlotte.
In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife, Carrie Williams Tanner; daughter, Amber Reese Tanner, 5; and step-daughter, Shelby Smith, 13 both of the home; sister, Tammy Helms and husband, Keith, of Matthews; a nephew, Justin Helms and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Eric touched a lot of peoples lives in all walks of life. He worked hard, played hard and never met a stranger. He had a great love in riding his Harley and dirt bike. He enjoyed playing golf and being on the lake in the boat with his family. He will be greatly missed by his family who will always love him unconditionally and will never forget his big hugs.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at Durham Memorial Baptist Church with the Reverends Steve McCameron and Charles Tanner presiding. Interment will follow the service at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, and in an effort for continued support for his girls, an Eric Tanner Memorial Fund has been established with any branch of Wachovia National Bank.
Arrangements are in the care of Forest Lawn West Funeral and Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC. (704) 395-0055.

It is hard to believe that there was a time that the only thing we worried about at Christmas was what was under the Christmas tree.
Now as an adult, my thoughts have changed.... Even though you are gone, and life is a little more complicated now. There is still a simple truth; you will always be my brother and I will always love you.
I know you are spending this Christmas with Jesus, but a part of you remains here with me. A brother and a sister share a bond like no other. I have been thinking of you all in the past months. I did not know Eric, but I consider you a friend, Buster,even though I do not know you that well, only from the VFW. I lost my mom and my husband within the past 3 years and I live with that heartbreak every day of my life. I can't imagine the grief that comes with losing one's own child. It's taken me sometime to write this. It seems everytime I start I stop.Eric was just like a son to me.He was so full of life.I guess in his forty years he touched alot of peoples hearts. Well son it has been three weeks this past Saturday since your Dad and I got the dreaded call no parents want to get saying your child has been hurt or God forbid killed. I know a part of our heart and soul died with you. This is the hardest thing we have ever had to endure. We miss you and think of you every single minute of every single day!
They say God doesn't give you more than you can handle. Well I'm here to tell you this may be more than we can handle. The initial shock and pain was bad, but knowing you are not on earth with us to see, talk to, and share things with is unbearable.
We know life on earth was not always easy for you and we would have done anything to keep you safe and happy, but that was not possible.
We never know what God's plan is and why some go home to him so early and sudden. We had you for forty years, which was not nearly enough, but we are grateful for every minute and know we will see you again some day. Until we meet again in the hereafter, know that you were loved more than you could ever imagine, and will be missed forever, as long as your mother, father, and sister breathe a breath of air and then some.

I grew up with Eric and the rest of the first generation of Quailridge Kids.
Although I moved to Florida the year he graduated from high school, it feels like just yesterday that we were playing baseball(we were teammates on the Mint Hill team at least one year - found the team picture), riding bikes or just envying him with his classic Camaro (esp. when he zoomed passed me on the way home from The Big I)

I just heard the sad news today! I'm so sorry for your loss. I've been friends with Eric since Jr. high school. I was new to the area and he took me under his wing. Every day when I got off the bus he would be waiting for me on his dirtbike.(We lived in the same neighborhood) We continued to be friends and I kept in touch with him through my husband, when he would call to place cement orders with Eric. To a good friend and buddy he would give you the shirt off his back if it was needed. Always confided in me as his only mechanic on his Harley-Davidson Fatboy sometimes very difficult trying to get him to understand what needed to be done. But with patients he always understood I rode with him and worked with him at Sunbelt Rentals-Concord He was a super guy me and Eric were a lot alike hyper,heart of gold ,But did'nt take kindly to being pushed around he'll be greatly missed by all the Ballard family and as a very valued customer at Eric's Custom Cycle. Hey bubba, it's me....it's your little sister. Saturday 09/29/07 at 5:31am, I got the worst news of my life. I got a call from mom and dad telling me that you were gone. I can't believe it. It just does not seem real. I know that in time, mom, dad, me, Keith and Justin will come to terms with this and we will begin the road to recovery and mending our broken hearts. Leaving you at Sunset Memory Gardens was the hardest thing we have ever had to do. But I know that we will visit you and talk to you and go on loving you every day of our lives.

Eric-I have known you a lifetime, yet it has been a lifetime since we last spoke. Eric was a really good friend of mine for well over 30 years. I have so many great memories with him. Seeing Eric always put a smile on my face and I know Eric will be greatly missed by myself and many others. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this very dificult time.
