Harold Belk Obituary

Harold Grim Belk SALISBURY - Harold Grim Belk, 73, of Salisbury passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at his residence. He was born October 7, 1939 in Union County the son of the late Reece Griffin Belk, Sr. and Ruth Domer Grim Belk. Harold graduated from Fariview High School in Monroe Union County. Harold graduated from CPCC and later attended UNCC where he studied criminal justice. He retired in 1985 from the Charlotte Police Department where he worked for 25 years, many as a Fraud Investigator. Harold was a member of Union Lutheran Church, Andrew Jackson 0576 Masonic Lodge, Oasis Shrine and Fraternal Order of the Police Lodge 9 of Charlotte, NC. He was a kind and very gentle soul that will be greatly missed. He also enjoyed doing cross word puzzles. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by brother, Jacob Donald Belk. Those left to cherish memories are wife Leda Belk whom he married in Cornelius on November 6, 1988; "Special Daughter" Donna Belk Thomas of San Diego, California; daughter in-law, Ester Marsh and husband Kevin Marsh of Salisbury; brother Reece Belk, Jr., Palmyra, Virginia; sisters Elaine Belk Metts, Ralph Metts of Tryon, North Carolina, Dorsi Belk Tilley, Durham, NC; granddaughters, Frankie Belk of Salisbury and Edie Belk serving in the US Army in Norfolk, Virginia and grandson, Andrew Burgess of Salisbury. Visitation: 12:00-1:00 PM, Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Union Lutheran Church, 4770 Bringle Ferry Rd., Salisbury, NC 28146. Service: 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Union Lutheran Church with Rev. Lonnie Karriker and Reverend David W. Nuottila officiating. Burial to follow at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, 355 East Ridge Road, Salisbury, NC 28144. Memorials: St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Mary just called and it was the first that I heard of Harold's homegoing. Had I known I would have been right there but you know my situtation and we don't keep up very well with the news these days. Like Mary, I feel sad but happy that he is free of pain. I hope to see you soon. Maybe the three of us can have coffee together at your covenience. I Don't leave Ernie very often but would love to have you & Mary come to see us. God loves you so much and so do I.
