Janet Bradshaw Obituary

Janet Young Bradshaw
November 29, 1933 - August 9, 2023
Charlotte, North Carolina - Janet Young Bradshaw passed away suddenly and peacefully in her Southminster home Wednesday August 9, 2023. Born in Wilson, NC on November 29, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Mary Ila and Harry Ashley Young, and stepdaughter of the late Oma Thomas Kirkland (Kirk) after losing her father at an early age.
While in senior high school, Janet met the love of her life, Bob. Their courtship extended into her college years that began at Mary Washington College and culminated after graduation from UNC-Chapel Hill. They married in 1956 and moved to New York, where Bob began his legal career. Soon after, they welcomed their daughter Ashley. Janet and Bob excitedly returned to the South after an excruciatingly harsh winter compounded by multiple garbage strikes and made Charlotte their forever home. Their son, Bob, was born three years later in 1962.
Lasting memories were made in their early days in Selwyn Village, and friendships were formed there that endure to this day. Throughout the years that followed, Janet treasured her time volunteering with various ministries at the church, being a parent and trustee at Charlotte Country Day School, and being an active board member of Good Friends. She loved many things: her family and friends, her church, the South Carolina Lowcountry, thoughtfully preparing comforting meals for friends during happy and sad times, Carolina Basketball, key lime pie, and black labradors.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Bob, a photograph of whom was always at her bedside no matter where she traveled. We take great comfort in knowing she is with him now. She is survived by her daughter Ashley Bradshaw Graeber (Blake) and their son Connor; her son Robert Bradshaw III (Celia) and his daughters Maggie and Emma; and her step-grandchildren Cameron and Bryant Graeber, and Avery, Marilyn and Justin Combs. She is also survived by her brother Donald Kirkland (D.); her sister-in-law Lynn Bradshaw; brother-in-law Rev. Francis Bradshaw (Sue); nephews Michael and Patrick; and nieces Connie and Carol.
