Janet Gores Obituary

Janet Elizabeth Gores CHARLOTTE - Janet Elizabeth Gores, age 47, passed away on May 31, 2014 at her home in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was born in Rochester, Minnesota, on April 12, 1967, to the late Marcia Ann Farrell Gores and Dr. Robert James Gores. Janet attended St. Francis of Assisi Elementary and Junior High Schools and graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School in 1985, both in Rochester, Minnesota. She received her bachelor of arts degree in mass communications from the University of Denver in 1989. Following her graduation, she moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where she developed her professional career in non-profit development and fund-raising, working for the American Cancer Society, The Cohn's and Colitis Foundation, Newton-Wellesley Hospital, the Archdiocese of Boston and the Archdiocese of Worcester. She briefly worked for Twin Cities Public Television before moving to Tucson as Administrative Director of Cause Four Paws, a non-profit organization to assist with pet emergency medical care at the Veterinary Specialty Center of Tucson. Anyone that spent time with Janet knew that she was a passionate sports fan of the Boston Red Sox, Minnesota Twins and Vikings. She loved popular music with Prince, Sting and U2 being her favorite artists. Her hobbies included tennis, backgammon, cross-stitch, reading books and watching movies. Her brothers, Dr. Paul F. Gores of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Dr. James M. Gores of Rochester, Minnesota, her sister, Dr. Barbara R. Gores of Tucson, Arizona, and her stepmother, Dorothy Barlow Gores of Rochester, Minnesota, survive Janet. Her oldest brother, William R. Gores, preceded her in death. Janet will be fondly remembered by her six nieces and nephews, numerous caring friends, former classmates and co-workers, business associates and supporters. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Charlotte at 1 PM on June 16.
