John Hartung

Davenport, Iowa - John Charles Hartung of the Village Co-Op, Davenport, IA was born on August 18, 1943 to Dr. Walter and Maxine Hartung in Colorado Springs, CO. John grew up in Bettendorf and graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1961. After four years in the U.S. Navy where he served as an Electronics Technician on board the USS Ranger (CV-61) and The USS Berkeley (DDG15) in the Gulf of Tonkin, he attended the University of Iowa. He received his Bachelor's Degree in 1970. While at the University he met and married Nancy Melissa Stamen in 1969 in Guthrie Center, Iowa.
John held a variety of management positions with Citi Bank in Sioux Falls, SD and Wachovia Bank in Charlotte, NC. Other jobs led them to live in Piscataway, NJ; Kingwood, TX; Walnut Creek, CA; and the suburbs of Chicago.
John was an avid Hawkeye fan, loved a good joke and a round of golf.
John was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Maxine Hartung of Bettendorf and his wife Nancy. He is survived by his sister Barbara (Jon) Wiechle of The Villages, FL, Dr. Robert (Susan) Hartung of Bettendorf, IA, and Mark (Deborah) Hartung of Marion, IA.
A private memorial service will be held at a future date. Memorials may be made to Iowa PBS Johnston, IA or The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Caring Fund, Iowa City, IA.
