Margaret Heidenreich Obituary

Margaret S. Heidenreich CHARLOTTE - Margaret S. Heidenreich, "Maggie", of Charlotte died Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Plantation Estates. She was born January 30, 1924, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a daughter to Thomas Douglas Sutter and Mary Price Sutter. Maggie attended Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. While there she helped host a function for the military. It was at this function that she met her sweetheart Hugo. After a brief courtship, Hugo and Maggie corresponded over the next two years as Hugo fought in World War II. Upon his return they married and settled in Charlotte. Hank and then Jeanne were born and years later many grandchildren and great grandchildren expanded their family. Maggie's greatest love was her family. She especially enjoyed years of family outings to Litchfield Beach. Maggie loved and was loved by many dear friends. She was always doing for others. As long as her family can remember, she cared for an elderly person, a child, or a family. She also volunteered by being a scout leader, teaching others to swim through the Red Cross, being a Pink Lady at Memorial Hospital, teaching Sunday School, delivering Friendship Trays, helping at Wing Haven, and mentoring children at Highland Elementary School where she received the Volunteer of the Year Award from Communities in Schools. When not volunteering Maggie enjoyed working in her beautiful garden, being apart of the Fifth Dimension Sunday School Class at Myers Park Baptist Church, reading, golfing, and dancing with Hugo. She was an avid reader of history and would shine when answering Jeopardy questions at Plantation Estates. Maggie was also a good golfer twice making a hole in one at Carmel Country Club. It was at Carmel too that Maggie and Hugo would "trip the light fantastic" on the dance floor. They were quite the pair! All that knew her will miss her for she was a sweet lady and a wonderful person. Maggie is survived by her two children, Hank Heidenreich and his wife Ayme, and Jeanne Steele and her husband Tobie; seven grandchildren, Bill Heidenreich and his wife Angel, Kathryn Rush, Will Morrow, Hannah Heidenreich, Jonas Heidenreich of Charlotte and Elizabeth Newton and her husband Gregg, and Cecily Hughes and her husband Barrett of Raleigh, North Carolina; and eight great-grandchildren, Jordan Rush, Sydney Rush, Brittney Heidenreich, Brennan Lowry, Hunter Heidenreich, Alice Newton, William Newton and Peyton Hughes. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 29th, at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Park Baptist Church with the Reverend Joe Aldrich officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in Heaton Hall. Maggie's family would like to thank the staff in Willowbrook Court at Plantation Estates and Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte for their special care and support. Most especially they want to thank Leigh Anne Gamble for her love, support and care given to Mom. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Myers Park Baptist Church, 1900 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC, 28207 or to a charity of choice. Hank and Jeanne
May you always cherish the memories of your mom. Having grown up in the Farmington/Arnold area I well remember the smile and always kindness that always danced itself about your mom.

I have such happy memories of living next door to the Heidenreichs on Farmington Lane as a very young girl. Maggie treated me and my sister, Alice, to many hours of listening to their Disney recording (with pages to turn inside the album cover) of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," often including a bowl of Campbell's tomato soup. I treasure those memories, as well as the recollection of Maggie's warm smile, attentive eyes and kind heart. I trust a part of her will live on as I try to share the kindness I learned from her with our grandchildren and beyond. If I'm not able to attend the service, Hank and Jeanne, please know how grateful I am for having known you all during this formative years of my life! With love to you always,
