Mitchell Lyman Obituary

Mitchell Forrest Lyman CHARLOTTE - Mitchell Forrest Lyman of Charlotte, NC, aged 97, passed peacefully on September 3, 2015. She was born on April 1, 1918, in Farmers Fork, Virginia, in the same house and the same bed in which her mother was born. She was the only child of Ellsworth Forrest and Frances Meriwether Belfield Forrest. Growing up in the Great Depression, Mitchell was one of the first women from her neck of the woods to attend college and graduated from Mary Washington College in 1938. She met her husband, Dr. John Lyman, Captain USNR, while stationed at Dahlgren, Virginia during World War II. They were married in 1946 and settled in Washington, DC where they lived until 1968 when Dr. Lyman took a teaching position at UNC Chapel Hill until his death in 1977. Mrs. Lyman relocated to Charlotte in 2006. Mitchell was an avid writer and award winning poet and published two books of poetry. She served for many years on the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee and was an active member of the Eno River Unitarian Fellowship. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by son John Lyman (Terrie) of Summerville, SC and son Richard Lyman (Janet) of Charlotte, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial arrangements are incomplete at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Loaves and Fishes, 648 Griffith Rd., Charlotte, NC 28217, or the Humane Society of Charlotte, 2700 Toomey Ave., Charlotte, NC 28203. "When failing to reverse the earth, One's impotence produces rage. There's a therapeutic worth, In scribbling on the page." Mitchell Lyman - 1918-2015

Dear Mitchell Lyman,

You are always remembered... Your kind words, sweet smile, and kind gesture are always in my mind. It was 37 years ago when I left your house to return to Indonesia.
So many sweet memories, which have been kept until now. Rest in Peace, dear Mitchell.

With love,
Ardi.

Dear Mitchell Lyman,

Even though we are different in nationality, religion, faith, and even ages (almost 30 years) since we met in 1985, but you are a person who gave me strength, motivation, inspiration to achieve my goal at that time. I lived at your home for 2 years and completed my master degree at UNC Chapel Hill in 1987.

Thank you Mitchell and have a good rest in God's arm. Hopefully we can meet again in heaven.

My sincere condolence to the family. May she rest in peace and the family be given strength.
Beautiful memories with her when my parents lived at her house circa 1985-1987

My sincere condolences to the family. It is truly a blessing Mitchell lived a long life because so many people will never see her age. It reminds me of Psalms 90:10 which tells us how our life span is 70 years or 80. Cherish the moments forever in your heart.
