Paul Green Obituary
SALISBURY -- Dr. Paul Green, 76, died Thursday, March 6, 2003. He was born on July 2, 1926 in Thomasville, NC to the late Paul and Lois Howie Green.
Dr. Green was a graduate of Duke University, Duke University School of Medicine, served a residency at Duke in Obstetrics & Gynecology & a residency in internal Medicine at the Veterans Administration in Atlanta. He opened his practice in Salisbury in 1958 & opened the Salisbury Clinic for Women in 1967 with Dr. Joel Goodwin & was later joined by Dr. Mal Parada.
During the 1980's, he was in private practice & later rejoined the group in the Kizer Center with a name change to the Rowan OB/GYN Associates. He had served as Chief of Staff of Rowan Memorial Hospital, as President of the Rowan County Medical Society & on the Board of Trustees, as President of both the American Cancer Society & the Salisbury Symphony. He was a member of the NC State Medical Association & the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology. He retired from active practice in 1999.
He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church & had served in the church Vestry. He was a volunteer & on the Board of Rowan Health Clinic for many years; volunteer at Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels. He was a veteran of the US Army during WWII in Italy.
Dr. Green is survived by his wife, Joan Allen Green, whom he married in 1952; son, Paul Allen 'Pete' Green & wife Tarre of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Susan Coulter & husband David of Cary, NC; Margaret 'Peggy' Horne & husband Frank of Charlotte, NC; Catherine 'Cathy' Holladay & husband John of Monkton, MD; sister Betty Houser & husband Robert of High Point, NC and eight grandchildren, Margaret & Andrew Coulter, Barrett & Connor Green, Paul & Allie Horne and Will & Sam Holladay.
The funeral is Sunday at 2PM at St. Luke's Episcopal Church with Rev. Stephen Morris officiating. Burial at St. Luke's Episcopal Church Columbarium. Friends may visit the family at the home on Saturday afternoon and evening, March 8th.
