Sadie Smith Obituary

Sadie K. Smith, 91, of Charlotte departed this life on Saturday, June 08, 2002 at Presbyterian Hospital following a brief illness. Sadie lived her entire life in Charlotte, serving her family, friends, and her church. She was a dedicated Christian and was always prepared for her home going. Sadie was the much-loved daughter of George A. and Alida K. Smith, the sister of Nina Smith Fellows, Gregory Smith, Thelma Smith Dunlop, and Alma Smith all who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sister Nona Smith who returned to Charlotte after a career with the U.S. Air Force during which she traveled throughout the world. Survivors also include nieces Lois Smith of Charlotte and Wini Coleman and her husband, Doug of Kingsport, TN; nephews, George S. Dunlop and his wife Becky of Arlington, VA, Tom Dunlop and his wife June of Reno, NV; great-nephew, Tanner Dunlop and great-niece, Lainey Dunlop.
Miss Smith was born August 1, 1910 in Charlotte. She graduated from Greensboro Woman's College, which is now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Class of 1932. Following a career as a bookkeeper and office manager, she served on the financial staff and as a volunteer at Caldwell Memorial Presbyterian Church until her final retirement in 1993. She was a member of the Steadfast-Bridgeway Bible Class, and was active in the Women of the Church, as well as a member of the Maryland Avenue Garden Club.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at Caldwell Memorial Presbyterian Church at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 15, 2002. The family will receive friends at church one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Caldwell Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1615 East Fifth Street, Charlotte, North Carolina 28204.
Arrangements are in the care of Hankins & Whittington Dilworth Chapel, 1111 East Blvd.
