Susan Callaghan
CHATTANOOGA, TN -- Mrs. Callaghan died May 22, 2009. She was born October 19, 1943, in New York City to Jean Herreschoff Bryson and Professor Vernon Bryson. She spent her early childhood in Huntington Bay, Long Island. She lived in East Brunswick, NJ, through her high school years. She graduated from Rutgers University's Douglas College in 1965. While attending Douglas she met her husband Jack, and they married after graduation.
Susan's passion for learning led her in several directions. She was a teacher, a social worker, and a paralegal. Susan had an insatiable curiosity for intellectual growth. She had passions for literature, politics, technology and genealogy.
One of the greatest forces in her life was her love of music. Her avocation was singing. For the past twenty-five years Susan was active with the Sweet Adelines Organization. She performed with The Chattanooga, TN Chorus, The Knoxville, TN Chorus, The Greensboro, NC Chorus, The Charlotte, NC Chorus, and The Gastonia, NC Chorus.
Susan is survived by her husband, Jack; daughter, Nancy Callaghan Robertson; son, Michael Bryson Callaghan; granddaughters, Lindsay Robertson and Kathleen Callaghan; grandsons, Luke Robertson and Steven Callaghan; and brothers, Stephen Bryson and Dr. David Bryson.
Memorial Service will be held at 6 P.M. Tuesday May 26, 2009, at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Art Jones officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of Chattanooga.
Susan's beautiful spirit will live on in the hearts of so many she touched and loved.

Jack,

Literally shocked to hear the news today about Susan! My prayers and thoughts are with you and your children. I've admired Susan since the day I met you two. She was such a beautiful and graceful lady. Her spirit will truly live!
