Thomas Sykes Obituary

Thomas Howard Sykes, III
Mr. Sykes, 53, went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, June 15. Tom was born May 22, 1952 in Charlotte and was the son of the late Thomas Howard Sykes, Jr. and Elizabeth Sapp Sykes of Charlotte.
Tom graduated from Myers Park High School and Appalachian State University with a degree in business. A life-long member of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, Tom served faithfully as a deacon, member of the choir and basketball coach in the church's recreational league. Tom was a tireless volunteer in the community and always ready to lend a hand to those who needed him. He served as a commissioner for the Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation department and as a commissioner and coach in the Dilworth Little League. Tom was self employed in real estate property management. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend and will be greatly missed by those who love him.
Survivors include his mother; wife, Lane Hill Sykes; daughters, Lauren and Meredith; brother, Vernon Sykes; and sister, Anne Sykes Goodyear, all of Charlotte. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, June 18 at Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church with interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Prior to the service, family visitation will be held at 1 PM at the church.
Memorials may be made to Camp CARE at P.O. Box 35072, Charlotte, NC 28235 and to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Arrangements are in the care of Hankins & Whittington Dilworth Chapel, 1111 East Blvd., online at www.hankinsandwhittington.

Tommy Sykes was one of the nicest people that I met and knew at Sedgefield Jr. High and at Myers Park. I had the pleasure of being in his company again with his involvement with the youth baseball at Freedom Park. Whenever he spoke of his family, he radiated such happiness about all of you. His love, concern, guidance and example will always be with you.

Dear Lane, Lauren, Meredith, and family,

I am so saddened by the loss of Tom. Also, sad that I couldn't come to Charlotte with Johnny to celebrate the Homegoing of Tom to be with his Lord. As soon as I can, Charlotte will be my destination to see all of you.

Johnny and I love you and our prayers will be with you.
