Mitzi Samples Obituary

Mitzi Marie Samples (Gross) of Brasstown, N.C., passed peacefully on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, after a brief illness.
Mitzi was born June 30, 1931, to Herman and Helen Gross in Chicago, Ill., later moving to Montgomeryville, Pa. She was the oldest of three children, twin sister Susan Gross and Donna Hammer (Thomas, predeceased).
Mitzi was predeceased by her husband, Warren, and is survived by six children: Merry ""BeBe"" Quinson (Francois), Jill Samples, Gail Samples (Robert Anderson), Warren Samples Jr., Marjorie Samples (Robert Schott, predeceased), and Neil Samples (Janelle); six grandchildren, Mitzi Barnes (Alex), Anne-Louise Carter (James), Suzanne Quinson, John Samples, Christopher Samples and Andrew Samples; six great-grandchildren; and her beloved canine companions, Benjy and Little Bit.
A woman of many talents and interests, Mitzi was vivacious, outgoing and always smiling; as Dad liked to say: ""Your Mother never met a stranger.""
After raising six children, with whom she shared her love of music, Mitzi earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education/Special Education and served as a substitute teacher in the Solanco, Pa., school district. She was an accomplished gardener, serving as an officer in the Delaware Hosta Society for many years.
She learned woodworking on her own and also designed a solar-powered house.
After moving to Brasstown, Mitzi played piano for her church for decades and enjoyed attending mobility exercise classes.
Her love of gardening and flowers was surpassed only by her love for her dogs, who were constant companions, especially in her later years.
Most of all, she loved her children, no matter how unruly they were, and provided them with a wonderful childhood in Lancaster County, Pa. This love was passed down to her six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and will surely be passed on to future generations.
We love you, Mom, and although we miss you we know you are in heaven playing piano for the angels' choir. Thanks for all those trips to the shore and other memorable occasions and opportunities that you and Dad provided.

Your mom was so patient and made the best buttered macaroni for all of us. I also have the best memories of going to the beach with a picnic for all of us kids Also great times playing at your house, swimming, boating in the pond. Your mom was an angel on earth. Sending all of you love.

I also have the best memories with daughter Gail. Around the horses, little boating in the pond, swimming in the creek and the trips with your mom to the beach with a picnic lunch from your mom. She had a lot of patience. Also she made the best buttered macaroni. She is a special angel now.
With love to you all,
