Basil Anagnos Obituary

Basil C. Anagnos, Legal Pioneer, beloved and influential to all who knew him, passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, July 5. He was 72. In the days prior, he acknowledged the inimitable perfection of his wife and best friend, Tina, nee Lambros. He instructed his sons, William III and John, to live according to the morals and faith they already know deeply. And he asserted that his daughter, Eleanna, indeed has everything she needs to succeed. After graduating from Northwestern University, Basil served in the United States Navy from 1958-1960 before going on to earn his Juris Doctor at the University of Wisconsin. A native of the Chicago area, he was a founder of the Ascension of Our Lord Greek Orthodox Church in Lincolnshire and a member of its Parish Council. A partner in the law firm of Angelos & Anagnos, Basil recently and proudly set a significant legal precedent in the State of Illinois regarding cross examination of defense witnesses in medical malpractice trials. One of many admiring contemporaries said "he returned common sense through the search for truth." Beyond those who shared his home, Basil is survived by sisters, Aliki (Dr. Thomas) Poulakidis and Maria Anagnos; mother-in-law, Antigone Lambros (wife of the late Yiannis Lambros); brother-in-law, Nick (Elaine) Lambros; and many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Ever a devoted son, Basil will lie in rest with his mother and father, Marianthe and William Anagnos, at the Elmwood Cemetery in River Grove, IL. Visitation will take place at Ascension of Our Lord on Wednesday, July 9, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Funeral Service begins at 10:30 a.m. Memorial donations to the church would be sincerely appreciated.

Dear Anagnos family,
My thoughts and prayers go out to you at the loss of a wonderful man. He and Mike hired me for my first job right out of law school 38 years ago and he taught me everything I know about the practice of law. I think of him often and he will continue to live in our thoughts and in our hearts.

Dear Tina and kids,

Basil was one of the last "old schoolers" around. His dedication to his family, his faith, his profession and his friends was unique and hard to come by in this day and age. He loved all of you dearly and special in his heart and he will be forever and deeply missed. He was truly a great guy.

Dear Tina, Eleanna, William and John,
I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sure Basil's passing is a loss for many. I worked with Bill from 1975 to 1985 at what was then my Uncle Mike's law firm. Though I have not seen him for a long time, I will always remember Bill for his extraordinary energy, kindness and sensitivity. My heart goes out to all of you in this difficult time. I pray that God will comfort and heal you and that Basil will remain close in spirit.
I'm so sorry I will be unable to attend the funeral, but my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Anagnos Family,
I was privileged to share many conversations with Basil over the past 3 years, as we were preparing a case for trial. Basil's wisdom, his unabashed love for his family, and especially the excitement and joy he displayed while talking about his family was an inspiration. The world was better place because of Basil and he will be greatly missed. May you feel God's loving kindness and His peace.

Dearest Anagnos Family,

It is with great sadness that I learned of Basil's passing. Basil was such a giving and kind person who allowed me an opportunity when I was just a beginning attorney. And I know that a great many others also felt this generosity. Basil, you will be greatly missed.
