Charles Ernst Esterhammer, March 20, age 91, of Morgan Park. Born June 1, 1925 in Chicago (Pullman). Beloved husband for 59 years of Marcella (nee Quinlin). Loving father of Mary-Alice (Christopher) Esterhammer-Fic, Katherine Brown, Clare (Leo) Jung and the late Charles Joseph Esterhammer (survived by Judith (Christopher) Newhall). Dear grandfather of Charlotte, Augustine, Madeline, Nathaniel, Maximilian and Zachary. Fond great-grandfather of Dylan. Son of the late George and Katherine (nee Cruden) Esterhammer. Brother of the late George (Evelyn) and Thomas Esterhammer. Veteran of World War II, US Army 20th Armored Division, ETO. He was a Math teacher and Principal for the Chicago Public Schools and later taught Math and Physics at Academy of Our Lady (Longwood). Funeral Monday 9:00a.m. from Donnellan Funeral Home 10525 S. Western Ave. to St. Walter Church (118th & Western Ave) for Mass 10:00a.m. Family and friends will gather at St. Mary Cemetery Chapel (87th Street & Hamlin) for Commital Service at 11:45a.m. . I was just thinking about Mr. Esterhammer. I'm so sorry to hear that he passed away. He was my favorite teacher at Academy of our Lady. Very patient and kind. If I couldn't learn how to solve the equation one way, he had another way to help me learn.

Mr. Esterhammer was my favorite Honors teacher at Hirsch H.S. I will never forget a life's lesson he taught me. So sorry to learn of his passing.

Mr. Esterhammer was my grade 11 Mathematics teacher. It was in his class that I became an autonomous learner and math came to make sense as a language. It was an empowering moment, and for this I am forever grateful. My condolences to Mr. Esterhammer's loved ones. I am sorry to hear about your loss.

He was one of my favorite teachers.I had Physics with Mr. Esterhammer and it used to get on his nerves that we girls would come in his class with our sweatpants on under our skirts. Our first period class was Phys.Ed with Mr.Dolezal. R.I.P
