David Miller Obituary

David B. Miller, age 89, passed away June 20, 2022. Long time resident of Lincoln Park, Chicago. Born in Ottumwa, Iowa, son of William & Jane Miller. David grew up in Madison, WI. Graduated from University of Wisconsin with honors. Served in the US Army of Occupation in Germany 1954-56. Upon discharge David enrolled in the Russian Institute program, Columbia University, New York, where he completed his MA & PhD. David taught at Roosevelt University for 38 years, serving as chair of the history dept. for some years. David was honored with the Seymour N. Logan Chair in History. During his teaching career, he spent a year in the Soviet Union on an academic exchange and another 1/2 year teaching at Taejon University, So. Korea. David is survived by his spouse of 65 years Joan, and sons John, Tom (Elizabeth) and Steve (Katia) and 3 grandchildren Abigail, Zoe and Joaquim. His brother Tom (Barbara) survives him. During retirement David was a Chicago Greeter. Often David could be seen jogging on running paths with the Pacers in charity runs and a number of marathons. David spent many summers at a family camp on Lake Umbagog, Upton, Maine. David enjoyed world travel. Some of his unforgettable trips were to Ethiopia, Iran and Cuba. David was always up for adventures. Private interment at a later date. Donations in memory of David Miller may be made to Roosevelt University.
