Was very sad to hear of the death of Don. Don was a business customer of our bank on the near south side, and over perhaps 40 years, became a friend. Don with Lynne would visit the bank when going or coming back from one of their wonderful worldwide adventures. They were a wonderful joyous couple who loved life and loved their family.
Long ago when I was a runner, Don and Lynne brought back from Japan a band, with a rising sun, claiming that Japanese runners would tie the band around their heads during their races.
Don would often come in the bank when Jack started his career in Boston, later in Florida, showing us Jack's name in a front page WSJ article declaiming an opinion on Treasury bonds.
Many memories. As we merged our bank just one year ago, Don, long suffering from Parkinson's, called me to wish me luck on my retirement, and saying how much he enjoyed our friendship.
When Lynne was gone, Don struggling with Parkinson's, I will not forget as he said, "The end game of life is very hard."
Surely the Ablin family, Jack, LeeAnn, Rachel, and all will cherish the memories of Don's wonderful legacy. May God bless all.
