Everett Campbell Obituary

Everett James Campbell, 84, died February 4, 2015, with his daughter, Bonnie Heather Campbell, by his side. Born in Clarion, PA on October 24, 1930 to James Burton Campbell and Eleanor Morrison Campbell, Everett was the fourth of five children. He married Louise B. Campbell on Feb. 17, 1951 and remained her husband for 63 years until her death on Sept. 28, 2014. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army and did a tour of duty in Okinawa. He then earned a bachelor's degree in social studies from Roberts Wesleyan College, a master's degree in international relations from the University of Denver, and a Ph.D in economics from Temple University. A career-long educator, Dr. Campbell taught more than 20 different courses and held administrative positions at Roberts Wesleyan College, Campbellsville College, Morehead State University, Bethel College (IN), Point Loma Nazarene College, and Central Christian College of Kansas. He was also a visiting professor at Florida A&M University, the University of Natal, South Africa, and the University of London. He was interested in cross-cultural exchange and served as a foreign student advisor at various institutions where he was employed. Everett was a preacher, Sunday school teacher, usher, board member, and consultant at various churches throughout his life. He was active in politics for many years in western New York as a campaign staffer, speechwriter, and speaker. He also served as a campaign surrogate for President Gerald R. Ford. After his retirement from university teaching, Everett was CFO of the San Diego Rescue Mission. In 2005, he and Louise moved to Surprise, AZ before relocating to Chicago, IL and, most recently, to Evanston, IL, where they shared a house with their daughter and friend Diana Schm¿ck. He was a beloved husband and father, an exceptionally kind, patient, and generous person who was a friend to all he met. He had a good sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He loved beauty wherever it could be found: in nature (especially birds and mountains), in the written word (especially poetry), and in music. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alberta (Fredrick) Larson and a brother, Harold (Phyllis) Campbell. He is survived by his daughter, a sister, Laverna (David*) Madgwick (Alfred*) Deemer and a brother, Willis (Melody) Campbell, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. Visitation: Walker Brothers Funeral Home, 15 West Ave., Spencerport, NY, Friday, Feb. 20, 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of life service will take place at Pearce Memorial Free Methodist Church, 4322 Buffalo Rd., North Chili, NY, Saturday, Feb. 21, at 1 p.m. Donations toward a scholarship may be made in Everett's memory to Roberts Wesleyan College, Attn: Planned Giving, 2301 Westside Dr., Rochester, NY 14624, memo line: "Everett & Louise Campbell Scholarship."

I was fortunate to have Dr. Campbell as a professor at Roberts Wesleyan College. He was a great teacher and role model. A true inspiration who reminds us all what is right about education.

I well remember Everett Campbell as an instructor at Roberts Wesleyan well before he was Dr. Campbell ('62 or '63). He was tough, but outstanding! His exams were the toughest I ever took in 15 years of college. Not only did you need to know the facts, you had to apply the facts to specific situations. Everett Campbell, Dr. Dave Robbins and I used to spend quality time solving the world's problems over coffee and donuts at the corner family restaurant in North Chili (a year after I had taken Dr. Campbell's economics course). I also had the good fortune to accompany Everett Campbell to Washington, D.C. where we(students'65)were tested to provide norming for Civil Service tests to future government workers.
I'm so sorry to hear of Dr. Campbell's passing. Please accept our sympathy. I'm sure he is presently walking the streets of glory and praising God for all of his goodness.
