Gregory T. Dimitriou, 44, of Chicago and formerly of Deerfield, devoted son of Theodore and Chris Dimitriou of Mettawa; dear brother of Kristy (John)
Poplawski, Dean (Lindy), Andrew and James (Michele) Dimitriou; loving fiance of Dr. Mary
Angelopoulos; and dearest uncle to many. 1982 graduate of Deerfield High School and attended Iowa State University. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 1 at St. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 1401 Wagner Rd., Glenview. Interment Ascension Cemetery. I just heard of Greg's passing and extend my deepest sympathy. We were friends when I lived in Chicago and I had many laughs hanging out with him. I moved away a few years ago but had run into him when I was back in town and he still made me laugh! He will my missed by many. He had a wonderful group of friends.

I first met Greg through work at Wallace and we soon became friends. I am forever grateful for the many happy memories of the times we spent together. Greg taught us all that two of life’s greatest gifts, laughter and friendship, are gifts that are free to give but are forever treasured by their recipients. I had the pleasure of working with Greg, we collaborated on some print jobs together. We became friends right away. I swear I dont think we proffitted a dime, but thats just the way Greg was, just as in life, he wanted to make you happy even if he had to take a cut on his end. Though 15 years my elder he treated me like an equal. I learned alot from him, he was like a big brother. Greg had a way of bringing the best out of people, he lived life to the fullest. The second I heard the news, many fond memories came rushing back to me about Greg’s many visits to Washington DC and our fun times at Wallace’s OPC’s. I met Greg 19 years ago. He introduced me to one of my best friends, Sarah. Over 19 years, he was kind, sweet, humorous and caring. And, he would always support and look after his friends.
We were great friends and then became neighbors 4 years ago.
I always felt safe knowing that I had a friend I could turn to in the building. He will be greatly missed by so many people.

I am deeply saddened by the sudden death of Greg. i saw him about a month ago waiting for a cab while his car was being fixed. We had a great conversation and of course a laugh. When we drove away my friend said "who is he", I responded, one of the nicest guys in the city. That sums up Greg. My prayers go out to the family and Mary.

Its not surprising that everyone feels the same sense of terrible loss from the news of Greg's passing. Some people just leave an impression on everyone that they meet, and make everyone's life a little better. That certainly describes Greg. A friend to all and a fantastic human being. Who that knew him would not say that their life was significantly enriched by the good fortune of having him as a friend. I, for one, consider myself lucky to have had him as a close friend, and will carry his good cheer with me for all the days of my life. He will be truly missed.

We too, lost a member of our family this past week. Greg was a lynchpin of our group of friends and an icon of Chicago. His influence on the community was far reaching -- much more so than even Greg realized.

I first met Greg about 10 years ago because a lot of people thought we were close in appearance, and apparently, a lot of people thought Greg might have been me and vice versa. That's how we first met, when he looked at me and said, you must be the guy that everybody thinks is me!! That always gave us a laugh.
