Irwin Segal Obituary

Irwin Segal, age 77. Beloved husband of Lynn nee Fleischman and the late Arlene nee Kresch. Loving father of Jeff (Dawn) Segal and Maxine (Jacob) Handelman. Proud grandfather of Elliot Segal, Ariana Handelman and Yael Handelman. Also grandpa to Helena Landsman, Sofie and Cooper Landsman, and Ethan, Sasha, Lilah and Scarlett Knight; and beloved by their parents Mark and Jill Landsman, Scott and Sherri Landsman, and Sari and Eric Knight. Dear brother of Lewis (Shirley) Segal and Ronald (Joan) Segal. Originally from New York, Irwin moved his family to Chicago in 1973 so he could begin trading as one of the first 100 members of the Chicago Board Options Exchange. He remained an active trader until his retirement in 2011. Irwin was an avid world traveler, visiting at least 24 foreign countries. He especially loved Israel, visiting many times since 1981. In the course of his travels he collected many of the rare and inventive watches that formed his extensive watch collection. Irwin loved Jewish life and took an active role in Jewish communities, both at Am Shalom in Glencoe, Illinois and Sinai Temple in Los Angeles. His family and friends remember him as a man who loved all the joys and wonders life had to offer. Service was held Tuesday 10 AM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 195 Buffalo Grove Road, (One block north of Lake Cook Road), Buffalo Grove. Interment Shalom. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Chicago Jewish Day School, 5959 N. Sheridan Rd., Chicago, IL 60660, www.chicagojewishdayschool.org and Stand Up to Cancer, P.O. Dear Lynn,
My heartfelt condolences to you and your family. Wasn't it yesterday we were at the synagogue in Capetown, sharing a holiday together before our safari? I am so happy I could share times with you and Irwin, times of happiness, times of wonderful memories. You have been my friend for over 30 years and I wish I could be with you now. May G-d bless you and your family and bring some comfort to you all. Irwin will truly be missed
