James Haddon Obituary

James T. Haddon, age 79, beloved husband of Carol Haddon (nee Stern), happily married for 57 years; loving father of Julie (Edurne) and Todd (Jackie) Haddon; cherished "Grandpa Putch" to Jakob, Olivia, Gabriel, Weston and Logan; much loved brother of Rabbi Jon (Jean) Haddon, and the late Harvey Haddon. He passed away from COVID-19 complications. Outside of his family and vast circle of friends, Jimmy's two greatest loves were watching and playing all sports. He especially loved his Sunday 16-inch softball doubleheaders, and practicing family law for over 50 years. He was an avid poker player, enjoying every game he could find. He was a gifted and generous "people person" and was dedicated to helping others while advocating for civility and improving human rights. He will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Morton Grove Park District Jimmy Haddon Fund at: Morton Grove Park District, 6834 W Dempster, Morton Grove, IL 60053. To the family of Jimmy Haddon and his beloved wife Carol, I send my deepest sympathy. I was sitting here the other day, thinking back about dear friends from Illinois. I started remembering classes and fellow Illini I had met there. One came to mind: Jimmy Haddon. Jimmy and I had a number of history classes together and would chat on occasion after our classes. Then I remembered another friend, the beautiful, radiant Carol Stern, who lived in my dorm, Lincoln Avenue Residence. I don't ever remember seeing Carol without that radiant smile. When I realized that Jimmy and Carol were starting to date, I was overjoyed. A match made in heaven! I want to let Carol know how wonderful it was to have a friendship to remember, that of two fine people, you and your Jimmy. I am delighted to see that this great couple was blessed not only with children but with grandchildren too. It seems just like yesterday at Champaign Urbana in the sixties--Green Street. the Union, the Quad. I send my peace and everlasting love to Carol Haddon and the Haddon family. With love and thanks for being there for me, Sandra

I just saw that Mr. Haddon passed away. He and Mrs. Haddon were wonderful friends to my parents and family. The funniest memory I have of Mr. Haddon is of him and my dad laughing and making faces during my son's bar mitzvah service. I kept shushing them but I couldn't help to laugh as well. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him. May his neshama have an aliyah.

I met Jimmy in the 1990's when we both officed on Wacker. He helped me with a case and from then on we were great friends. He always had a kind word. Both being Cubs season ticket holders, we had a lot in common. When I moved to Wicker Park he told me to look up the street named after him - Haddon. He was one in a million. I will miss seeing his happy and smiling face. Condolences to you Mrs. H and your children. He was well loved by all of us in the family law division. He will be missed. May your memories be a blessing to you all. Warmly, Nancy Murphy

Saying prayers for sparkling Jimmy and all the victims that lost their fight against Covid 19 as we remember them tonight. Too many, too soon. Jimmy, one of the best ones. Working with him, for him, just stopping in for a visit when I came in to work for Sam, Jimmy always had that great smile, was gracious, was present and was always bragging about his kids, Julie and Todd. It was wonderful to hear a husband/father/grandfather so proud. RIP sweet man.

Carol, I'm sure I join a chorus of people who knew Jimmy, respected him and found him to be a true friend and colleague. I met him thirty years ago, and we became friends through the practice of law. He was a mentor and encouraged me through out my career. He and I handled many cases over the years, and his knowledge was impressive, even in areas of law he did not often engage in. The shock of his passing still has not escaped me, and will remain lasting impression in my life. I will miss him dearly. Stay safe. My condolences to the entire family. Leo
