John Griffin Obituary

John Worth McAlister Griffin, "Worth" died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones in his home in Boulder Colorado on November 6 at the age of 45, after a long and courageous battle against cancer. Worth is survived by his loving wife Luciana, his three beloved children, Patrick, Sebastian and Marina; his mother, Margaret Carter McAlister Griffin (Jim Crowl) of Taos, NM; father Hollis Joseph Griffin, Sr. and step-mother Ginger Griffin, of Chicago; his sister, Elizabeth Griffin (Jim Plastiras) of Albany NY; brother Hollis Griffin, Jr (Gabrielle Griffin) and sister Heather Webster (Ben Webster) of Chicago; his 10 adoring nieces and nephews and his mother- and father-in-law China and Angel Cordova and brother- and sister-in- law Juan Angel and Jacinta Cordova. Worth was born on December 9, 1970 in Chicago Illinois, and grew up in Taos NM, where he graduated with honors from Taos HS. He loved sports and was an avid skier, tennis player, and member of the Taos High track and field and soccer teams. Open and inviting, Worth embraced challenge and was always surrounded with admiring friends, especially his life long best friend, Max Edelman. Worth attended and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a degree in History. Earlier this year, he had the opportunity to attend and watch UNC in the NCAA Championship game, together with his sons and several fraternity brothers. While working summers at Camp Osoha in northern Wisconsin he met his future wife, Luciana Cordova (Mexico City). The couple married in Mexico City March 1997 and spent eleven years there while their kids were young. The family moved from Mexico City to Boulder CO in 2010. Worth worked for Andersen Consulting, LLP, in Chicago and Mexico City, and for the Dell Inc. in Mexico City and Boulder. Worth was also a successful entrepreneur, engaging in several real estate ventures and launching other successful businesses in Mexico and Boulder. Worth's true passion was raising his three children with his adored wife, Luciana. His biggest joy was playing soccer, attending games and events for the kids, applauding and supporting them from the stands with a huge smile on his face. He loved exposing his children to new , especially traveling with them to see the people and landscapes of Africa, South America, Europe, Turkey, and all across the United States and Canada. Worth's battle with cancer and related health problems did not prevent him from living each day to the fullest, even when his condition became terminal. As such, he became an inspiration and example to his family, friends and community. A memorial services is scheduled for Saturday, November 12th at 2:00 p.m. at the Boulder Country Club (7350 Clubhouse Rd, Boulder CO 80301). All are welcome to attend and celebrate Worth's life.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush.
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

What a loss. What a man. So sorry for his family and friends. No matter his struggle he always focused on others. We can learn so much from Worth's example. He truly is a light showing us the way in this world. May your spirit be with us always. Requiem in Pace. Rest now Worth. You fought the fight. You gave it your all and your spirit will never leave those you touched.
