Kenneth Glixon Obituary

Kenneth Henry Glixon "Ken Henry" 64, born in Chicago, IL, a skilled dog trainer known throughout the city and author of popular book "Canine City Survival", succumbed to heart failure and complications of diabetes with his mother and friends at his side at St. Francis hospital in Evanston, March 23, 2018. Ken suffered with bi-polar disorder which plagued him throughout his life. He was full of life, loved the whole world, loved to sing and play his guitar making up lyrics. He had a beautiful angelic voice as a child and was in the children's choir at Sinai Temple in Hyde Park and the Lyric Opera in "Boris Godunov". Dog training and helping people with their dogs was his whole life. He also worked for Steve Edelman Ventures. He appeared on "Animal Planet" astounding the panel with passion and prowess. Visited many nursing homes and children health centers and entertained at Grant Park. He was eternally grateful to John and Joan for their generosity and support for Coral Reef. He is survived by his dog Coral Reef 111; his mother Eva (Jack Cecchini); his father Mark (Sandra Nettz); his son Henry; the love of his life Kitty; cousins Courtney Mitchel, Harvey (Suanne), Richard (Pamela) and Robert (Nina) Strauss. Predeceased by his beloved sister Debby, his aunt Gloria, and dear friend Stephen Nasser CPD. He was loved by many, his Godson Leon Hester, Steve Burgquist, actor Steven Williams. Greg Hollarman, Greg Molleck, and countless others. The city parks were his training ground, many a night he would be seen by the patrols of the CPD and brightened their evening. A memorial is planned for June. Any contributions to a charity of your choice. Coral Reef lives with his mother in Edgewater.

Ken was one of my most loved friends, when I moved to Chicago after college. He taught me not to fake who I was. I was hoping to find him and see him again. He met my twins 25 years ago. So sad and so sorry for your loss.

I went to grammer school with Ken in Chicago then lost touch until Senior year where we bumped into each other at Rich East High School in Park Forest my senior year. We became good friends again and had some classic fun times that will be in my memory until I'm gone. He was a good friend and a real friend.......something that is very rare and although we lost touch a few years after I was out of the service I will always remember him and was very saddened to hear of his passing.

Ken was awesome..super funny and extremely charismatic.... his dog training was completely on another level. I would like to continue his methods of dog training. If you are close to the family or were an apprentice of his please contact me. I would like to train dogs just as ken did and continue his legacy. Thanks and peace to all... especially ken.

It is with a heavy heart and a saddened soul I write these words. I was unaware of Kens passing until this week and in absolute shock. My heart goes out to Kens family. Ken was my first friend in Chicago when I moved here 1984. I was introduced to Ken by my dog, as my shepherd tried to attack Coral Reef I. Of course, Reef and Ken taught us both a lesson without harm. (And my dog never did that again) We became friends immediately. I felt as though I had known him all my life. Ken was so generous and had such a kind heart, willing to help a stranger in need without hesitation. I remember Ken and Reef would patrol the neighborhood on their long walks. He and Reef were the unknown hero's of the neighborhood, fearlessly confronting someone trying to burglarize a friends car, or rescue someone being mugged. With a few hand motions, the offender would be quickly pinned to the ground by Reef until the CPD arrived, typically in laughter to see Reef and Ken in action. My first year in Chicago, Ken invited me to Thanksgiving dinner with his family. I was so touched as I didn't know anyone here at the time. Eve, Jack and Debby made me feel welcome and part of the family. After moving to the Northshore, Ken would occasionally stop by the house with Reef and would perform for my kids when they were a few years old. They just loved him so much and were so excited to see Reef perform. To this day, both my boys still remember Ken as my friend with the smart dogs. Ken was truly, the original dog whisperer. He was so smart and had this quick-witted humor second to none. He always brightened my day with his laughter. Ken was also a naturally talented musician. I still remember a few late-night jam sessions. Unfortunately, I lost touch with Ken over the past five years and was unaware of his illness and recent passing. He was a great friend and one of my favorite people. I will always remember and love Ken. The song has ended but the melody lingers on..

My deepest condolences to all who loved, admired, appreciated, and respected Kenny, as I did. I adored his love of animals, dogs in particular. His upbeat spirit and smiles were contageous, his gentile soul, one to be emulated. You were a great man Kenny, gone too soon. May he RIP ❤Sincerely, Lisa

Thanks for EVERYTHING Ken. Needless to say, I'll never forget you. It's true that we 'never miss the water until its gone. So Thanks for all the times you helped me with your Wise counsel, when I was in need of a firmer grasp on reality. Thank you, and even though I miss you - I'm happier that you're not suffering anymore. The next pair of roller skates will be on me :) see ya'!
