Mary Homan

1950 - 2016

Mary (Polly) Kroger Homan, age 66, of Langhorne, PA, died suddenly on December 15, 2016. The cause of death was aspiration. Polly was predeceased by her parents, Willamay W. Benton and David K. Homan. She is survived by her sister, Susan Homan Friedlander (Robert), and her half-sisters, Mia Homan (Bram Fierstein) and Madeleine Homan Blanchard (Scott), as well as her nieces Anne Kimball, Jennifer Brown (Jack), Madeleine Fierstein (Michael Anastasia), and Hannah Hickok, and her nephews David Kimball, Atticus Hickok, and Nathaniel Fierstein. Polly was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on January 14, 1950. She was three months premature, then spent time in an incubator with too much oxygen - as did many premature babies in 1950. These realities resulted in her severe intellectual disability, as well as multiple physical difficulties. She required one-to-one care at all times, and at age six she moved to the Woods School - now Woods Services - where she spent her entire life. At Woods, Polly was able to thrive, to be part of her own community, and to enjoy her pleasures, such as music. Her caregivers at Woods were consistently caring, loving and vigilant about meeting Polly's needs and seeing to her well-being. Her family, her housemates and her Woods staff were shocked and deeply saddened by her unexpected death. A short service will be held at 1:30 on January 7, 2017, in the Columbarium of the Church of the Holy Spirit, 400 E. Westminster Road, Lake Forest, IL.
