Mary Cecilia Phillips

Mary Cecilia Phillips nee Burns, age 80, of Evergreen Park passed away on June 17, 2023. She fought valiantly for over a year against lung cancer. Mary was the patient wife of the late Martin M. Phillips and the loving mother of Mary Beth Nesic (Aleks). She was the cherished sister of Kathleen Burns (John Balchunas) and the dearly loved daughter of the late John and Mae (Dempsey) Burns. She was the devoted, life-long friend of Ann and Carm. Mary was loved and respected by all and deeply touched the lives of her family and friends. Mary graduated from Visitation High School and soon began working at Illinois Bell. From there she moved on to working at Carson Pirie Scott; first in the Trim-a Tree shop, eventually working her way up to manager of the cosmetics department. After retiring from Carson's after 30 plus years, Mary served as a dedicated volunteer with the Evergreen Park Citizen Services. Mary loved her family, her friends, tending her garden, reading her books, volunteering, and going to craft shows. Mary's enduring legacy will be defined by her strength, determination, kindness, thoughtfulness, and loving nature. She never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or other special event in the lives of those she loved. The hole in the lives of those who loved her is immeasurable and she will forever remain in our hearts. Visitation and funeral Tuesday June 20, 2023, 9:30am to 11:15am at Most Holy Redeemer Church, 9525 Lawndale Ave. Mass 11:30am. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
