I grew up with Matt, living just across the street in Oak Park. It seemed like we spent every minute of every day together until our family moved from Oak Park when we were about 12. We didn't stay in touch as adults but I never forgot Matt and the whole Brennock clan which was like a 2nd family to me. Matt is a big reason my oldest son shares the same name.
I started to look up the Brennocks of Oak Park to catch up and was shocked to read the news. I hope time has softened the loss and great memories of a wonderful person always remain.
Best,
Jack

I met Matt about ten years ago and only saw him once in person. I'd just lost my job and had made a trip to Chicago to meet with some agencies. In that brief encounter he made a big impression on me. Afterwards he sent me a note of encouragement which I've saved to this day. Though we'd kept in touch since then through only a few emails, I feel as though I've lost a good friend. He was a rare and genuine person. I am shocked and so deeply saddened to hear he is gone.

Matt and I grew up together. We attended Ascension and OPRF. When we were Sophomores he illustrated a poem I had written for the school newspaper. That was such a sweet gesture. Over the years, we had checked in on each other. He was a mensch, a force of nature. I was absolutely stunned to learn of his sudden exit from this plane. He touched so many lives with his brilliance, and beautifully authentic goodness. In his brief life, he truly gave everything, and leaves his legacy via his sons, and contributions to community. RIP sweet man. RZ

I had only met Matt for a brief time about 6 or 7 years ago. Though our paths crossed briefly, what little I knew about him then, I could feel his passion for life and "felt" there was something unique about him. Unfortunately. I never really got to fully find out what that was. Now, just hearing that he passed a year ago, I was shocked and then saddened. Reading the entries from everyone who knew him filled in those blanks for me. It's clear I was not the only one who sensed he had a special gift of relating to people and touching their lives. RIP, Matt. I'm glad our paths crossed when it did.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Matt's passing. I have fond memories of him back when we were both beginning our careers in the advertising business. I remember him as talented, self-effacing, genuine, and caring. That combination is hard to come by in our line of work. I wish Matt's family and friends peace and strength as they come to terms with this huge loss.

Condolences to Matt's family for their loss. Matt stood alone among everyone I've ever met; When I contacted him this winter about having lunch and catching up I tried to convey the unique effect he's had on me; he modestly, or perhaps self-deprecatingly shook it off.
My wife, who had only met him a few times (he and Sally were at our wedding reception) asked me what it was that made him so special in my eyes. I found an answer hard to phrase; I threw out a few words such as "throwback", referring to simpler, possibly more sincere times and "moral code," as in his was well-formulated and admirable.
God bless Matt.

Dear precious Brennock's and loved ones.. Matt is hanging out in Heaven with his Dad now... He didn't want to see his dad spend his first Father's Day up there alone...: )
As he lives on in Heaven, he will live on in your hearts.
