As always Peter was a "First Class" guy at everything he did and here is the letter I saved he sent to me on my promotion 28 years ago.

Mr. Norton inspired so many during his lifetime. He treated us (EB employees) like family, and had genuine concern for all his employees. He was truly a magnificent person. I praise God for allowing me to have met him.

This is sad news. I first met Peter at my father's funeral in 1977, just a month or two after I began my E.B. career. He flew in from Chicago, spent most of the day at my parents home, and was genuinely concerned about our family's grief at the time; Over the next 16 years that I was with Britannica, he NEVER failed to asked me about my mother and our family and their well being.
He was the steward of the company during some of its' greatest years.

My sympathies to the entire Norton family. I was fortunate to have worked at Encyclopaedia Brirannica while he was at the helm. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a true gentleman as well as a fine leader. God bless!

My deep sympathy goes out to Mr.Norton's family. I was glad to have met someone like him who gave me a chance to be a part of Encyclopaedia Britannica. May his soul rest in peace..

Peter was and will always be a true gentleman who understood the challenges people faced, including his children, grandchildren (one of which I raised) and his great grandchildren. My son has the fondest memories of summers together with him and Heather. We know he's at peace now, but will remain in our thoughts forever. My prayers to Heather and the rest of the family. He will no doubt be missed.

I first met Peter and Heather when they needed some Glen Ellyn computer assistance some years ago, and my lasting impression is that they are a "class act" - the epitome of a Gentleman and a Lady. Knowing I have an interest in history, Peter was kind enough to share with me his "Sailor Boy" memoirs he wrote in 2010. Knowing my love for Gilbert and Sullivan, Peter also showed me one of his prize possessions, a framed 1981 letter from his staff titled "H.M.S. Britannica 3", sung to the tune of "I am the Ruler of the Queen's Navy". Peter was a wonderful gentleman whose memory I will treasure, and I shall greatly miss our correspondence and conversations.

A very nice man and a class act- of course his lovely accent helped. The world needs more leaders like Peter Norton.

Peter was the "class" of the world wide organization of Britannica with it's thousands of employees, a great man, a great leader and a great friend. He was "one of us" and will always be in our hearts and minds. Thank you for how much you did for so many of us over the years. R.I.P.

A truly "Professional Gentleman". A great leader and an inspiration to others. I still keep the photo of him and I in western attire on my desk.
