Bob was my friend and colleague for over 30 years. We first met at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange in 1983 and were in contact on a daily basis. Bob was a consummate gentleman and professional marked with great intelligence and wit. There are so many of us who feel a void in our lives with his passing.

Bob was a wonderful boss, a brilliant mentor, a father figure, a brother in arms and a best friend. He was smart, creative, irreverent, quick with a witty riposte, well read, endlessly curious, kind and generous, a true gentleman and just so so much fun. The world is a poorer place without Bob Ray in it! I miss him so much.

Bob hired me 10 years ago and I'm still at the firm. He didn't know it at the time but he saved my life. I considered him a surrogate father even though he didn't know that either. RIP big man. I bet u got St Peter drunk and had a few words with the big man up there.

Such fond, funny memories. Although he's gone from our lives, I would imagine it has been wonderful for him to see his dad again. He's no doubt proud of the man he became. Our prayers are with his entire family.

I have known Bob since the days at the CBOT. Bob was always the center of a gathering. People were deeply impressed by his smile and quick wit. He was a true professional, an energetic leader and a friendly and caring gentleman. Bob will be greatly missed.

What an unexpected departure and great loss!
I worked for Bob's team off and on for almost 7 years now, and witnessed first hand the impact he had on CME, heard so many stories of those who traveled with him, and every so often saw his smiley face appear in our Chicago office.
Bob will be missed! Certain that he is now in the fullness of joy of God's loving embrace, I pray for consolation and strength for his family in this time of sorrow.

I've known Bob from when he first came to CME (before he left heading over to CBOT and them back with CME after the merger). We travelled a lot together. He was fun, funny and very smart. He never changed. He will definitely be missed. My prayers are with his family and other friends.

I've known Bob for almost 30 years. He was one of my best sources in covering the derivatives industry, but more importantly, he was one of the best people, and always had time to answer questions as well as make you laugh. Almost every memory I have of Bob includes mirth. My condolences to the family. Bob truly was an original and will be missed by all.
