Daniel Cullison Obituary

DANIEL DEE CULLISON

Dee died peacefully at his home on February 14, 2009 with his family by his side. He was born in Grants Pass, Oregon on April 2, 1928 to Jessee and Ruth Ann Cullison. He was the youngest of five children.

Dee attended school in Grants Pass, and after graduating from high school at age 17 he joined the U.S. Navy in 1945.

Following his military service he met and married Yvonne Britton in 1949, and the couple would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on April 16, 2009. Dee later attended Oregon Technical Institute (O.T.I.) in Klamath Falls, Oregon taking auto classes and specializing in radiator repair.

He and Yvonne had three daughters, and in 1960 the family moved to Chico. In 1967 Dee bought Chico Radiator that he owned and operated until his retirement in 1996. He specialized in doing repairs on large and heavy equipment radiators for many farms in the area, and when the Afterbay in Oroville was being built he did most of the radiator repairs on the large equipment being used.

He was a lifetime member of the Chico Elks Club and a member for over 12 years in the Chico R.V. Club. Dee loved getting together with his family and friends and enjoyed barbecuing. In early years he loved deer and pheasant hunting. One of his biggest achievements was building from parts a 1931 Model A Ford with a rumble seat.

Dee is preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Janice who died in December 1992. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; two daughters, Nancy (Dave) Barrow and Carmen Landini; one sister, Ruth E. Gardner; five grandchildren, Aimee (Peter) Fuszard, Ryan and Mike Barrow, John and Francesca Landini; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Dee is truly loved and will be missed more than words can express.

A memorial reception will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the family's home, 1675 Manzanita Ave., #116 in Chico.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Enloe Hospice in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home. You may share memories of Dee online at nbcfh.com.

Alan and I send our deepest sympathy to you Yvonne, Nancy, Dave, Carmen and to all of your family. We've had the pleasure of knowing you all for a long time as a friend of Nancy & Dave's. You were blessed with many happy times and have experienced more than your share of tough times as well. Those who know you, know what a strong family bond you have. Dee was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed. Hold on to each other and to your precious memories and he will always be with you. With love and sympathy for your loss.

There is not a day that I don't think about all the great times we had, especially the hunting and fishing adventures. I remember the 4:00am morning that we huddled around a lone Josuha tree above Eagle Lake waiting for a darn buck to pass by, which didn't happen.
Your Mom was so gracious to Janice and myself and I'm sure you got your personality from both Ruth and your Dad.
I'll never forget the day I came by Chico Radiator with a blown "water pump" and asked your help because I am just not any good at those things. Your comment, "sure pull it in but just remember where everything goes as you take them off"...I did and I learned...
Thank you Dee for being such a great influence in my life. Dave
