Henry Evers Obituary

DR. HENRY "HANK" GLEN EVERS

Dr. Henry "Hank" Glen Evers passed away Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, in Enloe Hospital. He was born Dec. 23, 1930, in Stockton, Calif., to Henry K. and Edna Gilmore Evers.

He spent his youth living in Sterling City and Butte Creek Canyon. He attended Centerville School, Chico High School, Chico State and graduated from U.C. Davis in 1956 with his degree in veterinary medicine.

Hank married Marilyn Britton in 1953 and returned to Chico in 1956 to open their veterinary practice from their home on Sunset Ave. Theirs was a life much like that of James Harriett with house calls for large animals and small animals being seen at their home. In 1960 Evers Veterinary Clinic was built and is still in operation under the direction of his daughter Susan Evers, D.V.M.

Hank was active in veterinary medical associations at the local, state and national levels. He was a past president of his local association as well as the California Veterinary Medical Association, in which he is a distinguished life member, the highest honor given to a CVMA member. Hank was also a member of Chico-Leland Sanford Lodge #111 F. & A.M., the NRA, Chico Elks, High Twelve, the Comanche Riders and he was on the board of the Butte Creek Watershed Conservancy.

Hank's interests were varied. He held a private pilot's license, studied judo and jujitsu, enjoyed hunting, fishing, target shooting, boating, spending time in the mountains and at Butte Meadows, riding horses and raising cattle. He and Marilyn traveled to Australia and New Zealand acting as the American Representative for veterinary medicine on a People to People Tour and visited Hong Kong as CVMA president. Salmon fishing in Trinidad was an annual summer vacation.

Hank celebrated 50 years of marriage to his beloved wife, Marilyn, in 2003 and 50 years of veterinary service in 2006.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn and their children; Susan Evers McCauley and her husband Robert; David Evers and his wife Rita; grandchildren; Ryan and Stacey McCauley and David Evers, his mother Edna; a sister Kathy Beach; a brother Pat Evers; an uncle Tom Evers; three nieces and a nephew. His father predeceased him in 1981.

A visitation will be Monday, Jan 1, 2007, from 5-8 p.m. with a funeral service Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007 at 3 p.m. in the Brusie Funeral Home. Burial in Nimshew Cemetery where three earlier generations of Evers are interred, is private. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Dear Marilyn and family
We were so shocked to hear Hank had passed away-I have always enjoyed knowing Hank. At the last reunion we had several nice conversations--did I miss something? I never realized he was sick-but that was like Hank, a true non-complainer. Once again I am faced with how precious our time here is. I only regret I didn't spend more time with Hank when I had the chance. From our talks and our emails I know that he loved our Lord and that he is with Him now. Words will not help you with your personal loss but it is such a Peace knowing that Jesus promised "That if you believe in me (Jesus) you will never die". Darby and I share in your grief and will be praying for you and your family. Bill and darby Manclark

Dear Marilyn, What a full life you and Hank had together and what great memories - it was a special blessing that you both were able to attend our 50th Vet. Class Reunion in September. All of us are thankful to have known him and to have shared a portion of his life. We hope that you will join the remaining members of the `Great Class of 1956' in Asilomar this coming April- like Carol Smith and Janet Sanford, we hope that you will continue to be part of our lives!
Mary Margaret and I send our deepest sympathy. God's Blessings,

Dr.Evers was such a kind man. I will never forget him. I was just a kid whose cat had impassible stones in his urinary tract and Dr. had just started his practice in his garage on Sunset. He told my dad he felt so sorry for me and my cat who missed his kid that he moved "Rochester" inside his own house with kids to comfort him. I experienced my first "loss" but I will never forget this kind of kindness even though I am in my fifties now and read news of Chico on line.
