Henry James Evers, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026, in
Virginia Beach, VA. Born on January 12, 1933, in
Chicago, IL, Henry lived a life marked by dedication, resilience, and love.
A proud veteran, Henry served his country with honor during the Korean War as a member of the United States Army. This sense of duty and commitment carried over into his civilian life, where he found fulfillment in his work as an auto mechanic and later at Norfolk International Airport in the Field Maintenance Department. His passion for fixing and repairing items extended beyond his professional life, making him the go-to person for friends and family who needed help with anything from a broken appliance to a malfunctioning car.
Henry's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. He adored planes, trains, and automobiles-not just the machines themselves but also the beloved movie that shared their name. Yet, above all, he cherished spending time with his family. A devoted father, he was lovingly described as the "best Dad ever" by his daughter Andrea.
Henry's legacy is one of warmth, humor, and unyielding support. He is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Anna Evers; his beloved wife of 67 years, Audrey Ann Evers; his brother, Martin P. Evers; sisters Mary J. DeNys and Anna Marie Holmstrom; his son, Martin Henry Evers; and his son-in-law, Stephen Kane.
He leaves behind his loving daughter, Andrea Kane, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three great great-grandchildren and a host of other cherished family members and friends who will continue to honor his memory.
